Hi Guys, I thought I was almost ready for an MOT, just replacing the rear brake lines and thought that was me done. Foolishly I had a poke at the rear floorpan with a screwdriver, I now have a whopping great whole in the box section that runs into the spring tower chassis leg :(

I'm going to drop the rear beam, arms and diff to get in to reweld it. The car is currently on ramps allowing under access so what's the best point on the shell to support the car from?

I've been working on my rear end rust repairs for the last three months :o: In all that time the car has been supported on two jack stands, placed under each sill.

If you look at the rear sill ends, there's the two bolts each side that hold the subframe support plates. Just next to them should be the jacking plate; a solid lump of metal welded to the sill. This tells you that INSIDE the sill there's an extra leg of metal to add strength to the sills when jacking up; that's where the jackstands ought to be placed.

Use a length of timber though, to stop your sill lips collapsing.

Cheers Grrr, I had a look at your thread and there's a shot with the stands in it. I'll do something similar.

The rust - scary thing is it looked in pretty good condition with the underseal inplace. As it's been said I wonder how bad some good condition cars actually are!
