Funny E30 stories about racing modern cars on the street?
Moderator: martauto
My old S50E30 would sit on the bumper of an E9x M3 up to about 110mph.
Similar power to weight ratio but obviously the E30's brick like aerodynamics came into play at higher speeds.

I like to think my bog standard chromie is quite quick. In truth my old chipped fabia vrs (a diesel) would probably out do it once moving.
Then again, i would like to see modern hot hatches at 26 years old with 180k on the clock pull the same sort of performance.
Either way, the child seat on my passenger side puts an end to any racing i might think of doing.
..................I'm getting old, i tend to watch the MPG meter more than the speedo.

I smoked an Triumph 2000 once
I really want a big fook off turbo'd e30 and keep the car as a sleeper with a 316i badge on the back and single mild steel exhaust. Be funny watching the 206 spinning its wheels with a couple of pikeys thinking there the boy, smiles drop. Ah I can only dream!

ive got two 325i sports and a bora tdi pd150 ...dnt take me wrong the bmws are great for what they are ...but these modern derv engines deliver so much torque!!
i think my bora would pull away from the 325is easily
btw ive made mince meat of the 52 plate shape civic type Rs on my derv

I put my car up against na E39 M5 unknowingly
Dark Grey, what I assumed was a 525/530/535/540 pertrol or derv Sport pulls out behind me.
Sat up close behind untill we get to the Red traffic lights heading for the dual carriageway.
Lights turn Green and he pushes me so who am I too back down
I floored it in every gear thinking power to weight my car stands a chance....no way!
This thing was on me like a rash and pushed me and the car certainly to my limit
I indicate to swap over to the left hand lane and it just takes off.Thats when I spot te quad tailpipes and M5 badge
Man those things are rapid accelerating away
Told a few mates about me racing an M5 and they just laughed, well I had no proof.
Couple of weeks later I get a random phonecall from someone I had spoke to for ages asking was it me a few weeks earlier as a guy in a Grey E39 was telling him about racing an old 316i Touring that gave him a good run for his money
Turns out the M5 guy is an old Zoner so if you read this Nev hello

christ where do i start !
i'll star with the most recent victims, an e60 550 rolling on 20's and all noisy exhaust got show up by the m52's compact. a bug eyed scooby decided to have a go and that go disciplined as well. fair play to the slag who was driving it
the car would ear civic type R's EP3's and DC5 integras
in the M3 ( which was m30 turbo and NOS ), the best victim was a porsche carrera 996 in the west end one night.
in dips old 325i turbo touring complete with bottle tops, many a porsche boxster drivers were embarrassed
many many years ago, in my tech 1 sport, which was cammed and running NOS, i spanked all sorts. i'd up the jetting to 100bhp for fun. with only 50bhp of gas it would scare the shit out of e36 m3's with 100bhp, well. by the time i'd shift to 3rd i was way ahead of most things i raced
its not always about beating them, it being able to keep with them be at the next set of lights with in a second or so. running good brake pads n discs means no fade for me but were they are braking later and harder each time i've had many peoples brakes smoking and their girl friends complain to them that their cars on fire lol

I beat a 320td compact the other day in a traffic light GP. More often its high speed runs but my winter tyres are limited to 110MPH
Although I had an incident last week where I arrived home with a X5 and 330D full of armed police greeting me.

I've yet to test or track the 2.7 that Ross and I swapped in. The only thing remotely comparable was him in his turbo rolling. Not a second where I was paced with him. The gap only got larger.... Nobody ever challenges me, or responds to playful driving. They always hear the 288 idle lope at the light and stay mild.

Thats a project I've love to do, an old chrome turd 316i, bronze colour. Totally standard looking, bottle cap wheels, pea shooter exhaust, looks like you just borrowed your grandads car, but with a boosted m52 under the bonnet.... would be a lot of fun.

it al depends on how much you wanna spend a nice small set up at about 10 psi will see 250-300 bhpmcbonio wrote:I think I need to turbo my 325i. What kind of gains might I see by turboing my 325i?
Ideally I'd like to spend not a lot, I'm very mechanically minded and could do the job myself. I want around 250bhp, enough to see my brother's 220bhp Supra off, wipe that smirk off his face.ross2009 wrote:it al depends on how much you wanna spend a nice small set up at about 10 psi will see 250-300 bhpmcbonio wrote:I think I need to turbo my 325i. I'm thinking of doing a reverse engine swap - replace 325 with 1.4 fiesta!mcbonio wrote:Thats the only reason I try not to race or floor it about in mt 325 cab, I swear when accelerating I can see the fuel gauge go down.!

Have a good read through this mate:

If you are mechanically minded and don't mind searching hard for bits, those power levels won't cost you much at all on a 325i

250bhp is very achievable even 300 is possible for a half decent setup, if your going to do it your self and do it properly you could get away with doing it for about 1500 -2000 quid I'd say

Yeah turbo's are a whole world in itself, I'd consider one yeah, but the way fuel is now and the roads in Liverpool, there a speed camera on every street, I already have 9 gold racing stars on my licence, I think I turbo is the last thing I need right now.!
I'll leave my little turd cab as it for cruising around for now
Cheers fellas

I took out a 911 in my 316i..........you should have seen the Porsche driver's face as he watched me fly past!!!! (he was in a lay-by with an AA man tinkering under the 911's hood at the time).
I fondly remember another time I steamed away from a three-wheeler at the lights. The lucky bugger took me on the corner though. I think he might have had a K&N bolted on
The one that really got me was when some kids running for the bus took me out on a straight!!

Talking of 3 wheelers , a mate had one. It was running nitrous
One day a porka pulled up next to him and laughed at my scruffy mate , who then proceeded to put on his crash helmet an reved the shit out his reliant giving the porker driver the finger, who then laughed even more
He was crying by the time the reliant robin had out dragged him ( front wheel up in the air ) down finchley high st and had to face us at the next set of lights
This reliant was pumping serious ammounts of nitrous, MSD ignition & spark to keep it from pinking etc.

He built a crazy Robin that he used to take down to Santa Pod a lot.
Had some tricked out Pinto lump in it with an Escort back axle.
Fully space framed etc.
No idea of times but I remember watching a shitty VHS of it in action and it was mental,up on its wheelie bars everytime
