does anyone know of a reason why blades would snap off the viscous fan?
i noticed today theres a few broke off my third fan 8O . it seems to clear everything with ease but i'll take the big funnel thing off and see if it still happens just incase. can the blades expand when the cars at full chat, or do they become brittle with age? none of the ones i used were brand new so i'll pick a new one up on payday and see how it gets on

Hmm this is a strange one, only thing I can think of is that your engine mounts might be badly worn and the engine is moving so much as for the fan to contact something.

Possibly, though I suppose it could have gone un-noticed, with regards to the fan shroud hitting the fan, if this was the case, surely there would be telltale marks on the shroud you would have noticed? Any marks on the rad where it may have made contact?

theres 3 blades snapped clean off this one, i'll check the shroud in the morning for marks.
it could be the mounts as it was my mate that done the mot and is usually a bit lenient with me  , but he never mentioned it

the mounts are the bushes ,
but its either a dodgy batch of fans your buying or your mounts as ppl are saying

thing is if its got a wobble on from a blade missing maybe it will cause the others to get cracks and take them off with it

generally the blades brake next to each other, but this time its 2 neighbours, and 1 on the opposite side. iv'e also replaced the mount/bearing a while ago which i bought brand new. cant see any obvious signs of damage on the shroud either.
strange. i'll buy a brand new fan, the previous ones were 2nd hand, and leave the shroud off, if this one brakes then theres something serious afoot!

thanks for the reply's fella's 8)
