my 1994 318i m40 Touring has developed a fault, was working fine yesterday until this morning when i went to start it, it took stupid amounts of cranking to start had to give it loads of throttle in the end when it eventually splutterd into life.

When pulling away it kept stalling and coughing till it was above 1500rpm, above these revs it was fine. it started running fine after about 10-15 mins driving when engine was fully upto optimum temp and have been stop starting the all day today doing a few short trips and done around 50 miles and its been fine since.

i'am guessing tomorrow morning when i go to start it to go to work its going to be hard to get going again.

Blue temp sensor ??

Ive not yet inspected dissy and rotor, could engine temp affect these???

Any help would be appreciated :D

Have a look for air leaks round the inlet manifold. Could be closing the gap as she gets warmer. Fingers crossed for you bud.

Air leak, blue temp sensor - even clogged fuel filter/strainer ?

Can't see dizzy cap/rotor arm causing this sort of fault that gets better as it warms up

Dont know if all blue temp sensors are the same but I've got a brand new ECP one I can get posted to you if you need one for a few beer tokens

Have a read of the Common Problems for the Air and Fuel systems:

Almost all the tests you need to do are covered in those sections.
