As long as the ECU, EWS module and ignition key are from the same car, it will work fine. It is possible to align an EWS module to a different ECU, but the EWS module and keys are coded for life and cannot be changed (although you can disable keys, you cannot add them). To code the ECU and EWS together, you would probably need to find someone with an E36 Evo who is happy for you to code the units on his/her car.bigpimpin wrote:Thanks Ian, I'll have another look tonight for the EWS stuff. I definately dont have the ECU. I looked at the engine harness and saw the long plug that attaches to the ECU but cant find the box. I'm chasing up the seller now. If its gone AWOL Can EWS/ECU's from different vehicles be made to work together?

Cheers.

My engine came without keys (although it did have the matching ECU and EWS module). My dealer was able to supply me some keys after I proved that I had bought the engine. I showed them the receipt for the engine, as well as my V5, driving license and address etc. I also had the VIN number from the car that supplied the engine. I also had my car serviced at that particular dealer, so they knew who I was. I guess if some bloke wandered in off the streets they may get a bit funny about it.GermanGorilla wrote: BMW will not supply Keys for ECU's unless you have the Supplying Dealer paper work, and then they sometimes refuse.
