Heaters

I've got a problem with my car at the moment. The heaters are pretty shit and i know that one of the problems is due to my thermostat needing changing. But when the car does finally reach a decent temperature (in traffic) and the heaters are finally warming up and i start driving the temperature needle goes back to cold again and the heaters also go cold.

Is this due to there no longer being a viscous fan? Or is there something else that needs doing/checking?

BTW, his car is M52'd


i had this issue with my compact, and it turns out there was bad air lock in the cooling system after a rad change

That's a possible Kos..!

My m52 stays mid range on the temp consistently unless in traffic and rises to slightly above mid and fan cuts in.

After a water pump change and rad change I had an issue where the heaters would go off luke warm on idle then heat up when engine revs rose.... Turned out I had a slight air pocket in the matrix. Heaters are fine now though.

Thermostat sounds like the likely cause in this case mind, has any cooling system had any maintenance lately??

I think once the thermostat is changed and the system bled it should be okay. I think i might do the water pump as well. I was going to do the valve on the matrix but those are friggin expensive, but if i have to then ive got no choice.

Only when the conversion was done was the new rad fitted, that is the only time it was touched. The temp needle never goes half way unless in a lot of traffic but even then when i start moving again the needle goes back down to cold again.

Yeah that's obv not right mate, change out the thermostat and bleed thoroughly then report back I'd say. She's over cooling

Why are you driving with a duff thermostat? This is the best way to destroy your bores I can think off, short of throwing handfuls of grit into the inlet manifold.

The car is off the road now till i get this fixed. Anyone know the correct thermostat to get, opening temperature?

I'm running an 80-88 degree stat and 318 ti compact thermo switch in the rad. This is also rated 80-88 degree mate.

Cheers for that mate, i wont need the switch. Im running a kenlowe fan and i think it has an adjustable thermo switch.

88 or 92 degree 'stat for a M52.

88 degree stat is what most people use iirc
