Last night I managed to go through my fourth set of driveshafts in a year and a half. :x

I should say the actual shaft itself is ok, its the cv that fails

I have a compact 318 rear end on my e30 but I am running a E30 Med case diff with e30 325 shafts. But I seem to be the only person who has this issue, I have spoken to numerous people with M60/S62/S50 engines all doing the same type of driving and none have had the same issue as me. Do I just have bad luck with these or is there something that can be done about it?

Granted my last set of driveshafts have lasted a good 3/4 year, done 5+ drift days and a couple of demos.

Are there any driveshafts that are stronger then the 325 shafts?

Diesel? Did they even make a diesel e30?
E30 M3? Hard to find? Will they fit?

The lower the mileage the longer the shafts last, so buying new ones would make sense. However with them being re-produced and not genuine are they still as strong?

Any help would be great!

They did make an E30 diesel, but the drive shafts are identical to the other models.
I have no idea what other shafts might fit though.

GKN/Lobro still make the driveshafts, and BMW still supply them. Only problem is they are near on £300 each, and thats from GKN, not BMW!

Woah £300! Dan you seem to have endless knowledge!

I had a chat with a few companies that custom make driveshafts but its mainly the actual shaft that they can make to any strength needed

Brian - Ah I forgot the Z3M, is there a difference between the strength/size of the shafts. I was under the impression it was only track width that was the differance?

Thanks for the replies

If your drag racing, its not only the CV's that can suffer 8O

I would say you could buy the joints but they're around £100 each any way.

It is combination of traction and torque yeah, I believe that spline twist came from an E46 330i with nitrous and drag tyres, it was doing 11 second 1/4 mile runs either way

I finally got round to taking the driveshafts out.

Here is a few photos of them (sorry for the shakey pictures), but the actual shaft snapped not the cv breaking which is what I initially thought
