If this has broken off, I'm afraid you have a MUCH more serious problem than you think you have.
The metal where the stud is attached is a double skin, and I think you'll find that the stud is rusted off, rather than broken.
The cause of the problem is a failed bead of sealant inside the scuttle box. Water has found its way in between the two skins of this part of the bulkhead, leading to it rusting from the inside out.

cant see any rust where the stud has snapped off . i was down to me being too heavy handed when refitting the glovebox

I hope you're right!
When I've bodged these studs, I've drilled right through into the engine compartment, and fitted a 6mm bolt from the engine side, with a nut inside, then fitted the glovebox and another nut.. i can see the metal is double skin that's why i asked about using a rivnut . Care needed when drilling through - there are things the other side you don't want to drill into!
The bead of sealant is inside the scuttle box - underneath the grilles beneath the windscreen. Can only really be done properly when the scuttle panel is off.

I had this problem when i de-rusted my Touring, removing the glovebox mounting to get to the scuttle area to treat/weld and the stud and a little bit of the surrounding metal came off, there was a little bit of corrosion but not terrible, bit odd!
Forgot to re-weld the stud in and the glovebox currently only mounts on one
