Every time I see missing centre caps on an E30, I get paranoid that mine are the next to be nicked - especially as I am about to fit rare'ish Motorsport wheels to my convertible. (It would appear however that 15" ones are far less likely to disappear than 14".)
Is there an 'in the know' accepted method of trying to prevent this happening eg small chain/lock or has anyone got their own cunning prescription?

I used to have the same problem on my Alpina reps. The caps used to always go missing and they were a night mare to get hold of. However I over came this problem, by getting my dad to put a tap (engineering tool) through each rim. In addition placing a discrete bolt through the caps. We also did them on my friends M3 18Ôš'Ôš' BBS splities. In general the process is very easy and you can get the tools from Halfords. If you want I can post some pics and a detail description of how to go around this.

The same can be done with the caps on the basketweave's, i did this to mine and used anti-tamper Torx head M6 bolts.

Stick them on with some clear silicone sealant. It generally deters people as they dont come off to easy, but when you want them off they come off and the silicone comes off too. Bolt sounds better but I can't be bothered/ don't want to drill in to my wheels.

Just remember to take the caps off before you got to kwik fit etc, as the monkeys there don't know how to take them off and always break the tabs.
