Its not a look that's to everybody's taste but that's the fun part for me :) Its not that difficult to drive as long as you take it slow and watch the road for anything that looks a bit nasty its ok. I've taking chunks out of speed bumps and drove away fine. These old beemers are built tough ;)

E30 looking good Adam, I raised my engine (m20) and now the m52, havnt had no problems tbh, make some mounts with hockey pucks ;-) lol, and just for the record e30-dk, having 200bhp under your "right foot" doesn't mean you can drive/drift... I've seen Adam drive/drift in the little underpowered m40 and was shocked as were a lot of us, especiallly as he had only just past his test from what I remember....

Oh look he now has a bum boy to back him up  who is also a newbie! Lmao
So I can't but he can in a weasly little m40, have you seen me behind the wheel huh?? No!

30 years old been driving for years mate, and as I thought the newbies are in the "just passed there test and still in nappies" period but they can drift-drive and know all better than everyone else. Which explains why he's slammed an e30 beyond its point of practicality, done 2 sumps in already and is on here cryin for help about it. Just passed his test and able to drift....... In an m40?? Scene jokers!

Now now girls.

Your other option would be to make some new home made mounts out of very thick rubber, drill and very central hole and then slide a new bolt through it, but echoeing what others have said, dont expect it to drive like it did when new, which I think your fully aware of.

Not sure on the size difference but what about engine mount rubbers from a M20? I know there a good 50-60mm in size, but I dont know what the M40 ones are like.

If its all on the cheap then its a matter of wedging something between the engine and the subframe, but bolted down safely

Everyone has to remember, he isnt trying to sell the car, it isnt yours, he knows full well that its not gonna handle well and he isnt going to be doing 100 mph in it.

If he does try to sell it on, rip into him then and state anything he misses in his ad, but he hasnt so let the lad crack on with it. Its a 4 pot anyway so what you all whining about? winkeye

All because you are 30 years old doest mean, you can drift does it? Either way the topic is about helping him achieve what he wants = a very low e30, maybe it isn't your choice but you don't have to drive it...

Making new mounts would be good but it might rattle my brains out every time I go for a drive. (even more than it does already)

I really want a quick fix because I'm changing the sump today and I want to protect it a bit as soon as possible so I don't break the new one.

I'm gonna be under the car a fair bit today so I'll have a look and see what I can dream up :P I work for a company restoring classic cars at the weekend so I could probably make something there once I get a good idea of what I need to be doing. I'll make sure I get pics for anyone having similar problems :)

I'm amazed you even manage to "do skids" with your car that low, some sensible suspension would definately make your life eaiser. There's a chap on here who drifts a red touring and has just raised his suspension about 40mm I think from a drop not anywhere near as low as your car to greatly improve his handling.

Also as Jhonno said hope your properly insured, which I suspect your not.

8O People on here really need to just deal with their own shiit  If life is that bad you feel the need to pick at someone else car you have never met, your spending too much time online.

At the OP,

I have some M20 mounts here that are spare, not sure if they are bigger or not or would do the trick but if they're any good and you cover the postage, I can get them sent out to you. I've taken some pictures with all the measurements, i'll upload them when I properly come back in.

It certainly won't be insured if an assessor ever gets a look at it! Fancy paying off a couple of £million for the rest of your life?

The point is to me anyway Jim that there is car driving most likely not properly insured. If it hit your chromie I'm sure you'd feel differently.

Whether he wants to bury it in the ground or hang it from sky hooks is none of your business

Drift, Stance, Rat, OEM Homo - it doesn't fekkin matter

He asked a tech question in the tech section now give him a fekkin tech answer or just STFU you agumentative oxygen stealing molluscs

Guys the cars insured as having lowering springs and it recently passed its MOT. I don't understand why everyone is getting so upset? E30's are just old cheap cars, I know we all love them but there thousands of them about. If E30's were rare and worth any money I'd understand your frustration and I would probably keep mine near stock. The fact that I can go out and buy an E30 of the same spec as mine for the price of an old volvo or corsa is the reason I don't mind scraping about in it.

Really appreciate your help Jim, I'll find out the measurments on the M40 mounts. If there's little or nothing in it then its probably not worth it, if there's enough difference I'll definitely have them off you

Righteousness has nothing to do about it, I do however have an issue with people driving with invalid insurance or dangerous vehicles my neighbours were nearly killed when an out of control uninsured driver t-boned their car.

The OP can do as he wishes ultimately but friendly advice is what this place is about.

Nowt friendly about half the posts on this thread.

Your point about insurance is valid but not really applicable to the OP's question in this section.

I just said that the car has valid insurance and a valid MOT. I know its easy to hate on younger drivers so I get why your bringing up the insurance thing but its not the case.

So if someone comes on asking a stupid question, that makes a car dangerous etc, we just keep schtum and give advice on how to do it? There's a bigger picture out there, if you were to engage any grey matter.. :D

Why is raising an engine slightly dangerous? If any other member had asked that question it wouldn't be an issue. If someone said they needed more clearance on there track car it would be answered straight. Because my car doesn't look like every other e30 I get abuse for it?

Where did I say it was?

Someone building a proper track car wouldn't be into such bodgery and they'd have a sensible ride height. Null point.

Again a valid point but that is a different issue and not relevant to my earlier comments.

You write like a lawyer btw.

Any hoo, the OP has his answer, a few posters enhanced the friendly rep of the zone again and I'm off to find my grey matter that I have so clearly lost in transit

The need to raise the engine indicates that the car is way to low......

If you want to go super low, choose a different car.

Is there enough clearence under the bonnet ?
