Called up BMW Park Lane service dept last week to get a duplicate history for my ’79 520. They’re saying they’ve only got records going back to 2003 though”¦

Check with the sex offenders register (Andyboy has the number) There is a good chance all the previous owners, if not dead, are on the 'list' !

To be fair, any service hisory as far back as 1979 onwards was probably not kept on a data base and the paper files have probably been destroyed, even if they were on a database of some sort, they probably wouldnt have been tranferred onto their current system....imagane all the time and work involved in something like that....
But 2003 doesnt seem to be as far back as i would have expected... Most Mercedes main agents tend to go back to 1993 for a tracable histoy on their database...

..the woman there seems convinced the BMW Park Lane service centre started in 2003.. Maybe they moved into a new building then? I thought they'd had a place in Battersea since the early 80s at least

if its anything to go by.. my e30 was sold by "coopers park lane bmw" , which was a "franchise" type bmw dealer, which then changed to bmw park lane (in the same place) , maybe in 2003 ? so its the same place, but a different dealer so to speak

i used to work on c services at park lane and battersea, you dont wanna ring park lane they wont have any records i know this as i did work experience there prior to gettin a pt job, and i was made to clean out the filing room in my suit !
staff there wont really know tbh its all scripted in front of them ask a question they dont know it goes into freestyle mode!
i tried this at battersea with my e30, this was in 2008 and they said they didnt have any records at all, cant remember if they said its limited and only goes back to 2003 i doubt it tho,
but if your car was serviced at a bmw garage they may have it on record, i think you need to ring bmw head office iirc? that duplicate history link may only be for cars bought at park lane, but there was a number i was given wen i asked think it may of been a number for head office they said if my car was serviced at a bmw garage they should have records,
ring battersea and ask for a service booker, and just ask them about you wanting the history, not sure if its changed though its been a little while!

ANY BMW dealer can check on view data IVZ system to see where a car has been serviced within the dealer network.
The problem i have found, not every dealer updates the system when a car comes in for work and there can be gaps. I have seen records go as for back as '89.
I checked a car today, an E28 to be precise and the records for that car went back as far as '90.
