I noticed today that people are asking Cotswold BMW for their car's original build spec.

This can be checked online here:

http://shop.bmw-classic.de/is-bin/INTER ... ault-Start

Go to "AUTOMOBILE", enter your chassis nimber as you would for RealOEM, and instead of browsing the parts catalogue, click on the small grey tab at the top marked "equipment" and the otion codes are listed for the chassis number of your car.

For example, mine gives this list:

Código Denominac.(interfaz) Denominac.(EPC)
S209A LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (25%) Diferencial de bloqueo 25%
S215A POWER STEERING,DEPENDING ON ENGINE SPEED Servodirección, en función nº revol.
S235A TRAILER-HITCH WITH REMOVABLE HEAD Dispositivo de enganche desmont.
S251 ZUSATZTANK
S311 ELEKTRISCHER BEIFAHRERSPIEGEL
S350A WAERMESCHUTZGLAS GRUEN, RUNDUM Vidrio calorífugo verde
S400A SLIDING SUNROOF MANUAL Techo corredizo/deflector manual
S662A BMW Bav. CR Digital Radio BMW Business CD
S680A MANUAL AERIAL Antena de radio manual
S915A nur Boden konserviert Supresión conservación piel exterior

Exactly the same as the info found under my rear seat and even translated into Spanish for me (well ,mostly...)
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....

Just tried that on the VIN from the V5 of one of my fleet that I picked at random, and it shows "S209A LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL (25%)", which is (extremely welcome) news to me!!

Seems to work - a good find :D

Only thing on mine thats listed on the cotswold data but not listed on that system is 033 - No internal Headlight Adjustment ( Although S200A Cat delete is noted )

How many other S904 SONDERKONTROLLE TYPPRUEFWAGEN ( pre production car ) are there on the zone ? :D

If you log onto ASAP via a BMW dealer portal then it takes seconds and gives more info than just spec.

Just done this on my 316 and a little confused by the gearbox options compared to what Cotswold reported.

Cotwolds;
205 5-spd Overdrive Gearbox

WebETK
S205A FUENF-GANG-GETRIEBE (SCHONGANG - Description EPC =Automatic transmission

The web version looks a little wrong to me.

Upholstery colour is listed under the Vehicle Information. 0274 might specify sport seats, i don't know the various codes.

did different countries get different standard equipment?

i.e if the uk got electric windows as standard but they were optional in germany, would they still show up on the spec sheet on a uk car?

i.e my german import 1989 m3 has...

s410a window lifts, electric at front
s415a sunblind for rear window
s428a warning triangle ( + first aid kit)
s530a air conditioning
s535 ELEKTRONISCHE TEMPERATURREGELU (which i assume is electronic temperatiure control, i.e climate control )

however it makes no mention of the 6 button obc (standard on m3 spec)
leather seats
or being a non-sunroof version

:?

edit:

found the leather and colour stuff so thats all ok :o:

I'd guess that any regional specifics would be covered by this type of thing;

L812A ENGLAND VERSION NATIONAL VERSION GREAT BRITAIN

Probably something similar models like LUX and SE. Extras like OBCs wouldn't show up as selected options as they are automatically fitted on that model designation. That's just a guess mind, need someone with one of those models to try it.

A car being a non-sunroof wouldn't show up as to have the sun-roof was an option, non-sunroof would just have been standard.

What does it tell you that the best "extra" on your car was actually something intentionally left off !! :rolling:
