I have a leak from the inside of the bulkhead heater gromit into the footwell. the hose which attaches to the engine bay side of the gromit has been removed recently as i have just done an m52 conversion (and therefore is pretty hard to get at)
my question is this: how does the gromit make a seal on the heater matrix side? the heater matrix part is a male connection and it slots into the gromit, but there is no clip or clamp to seal it to the gromit.... is it infact this heater matrix part itself that pokes into the engine bay?
i hope it is as it could just be a case of tightening the jubilee clip on the engine bay side
should i draw a diagram or is that a clear enough question?
cheers,
Matt

i think the bit im talking about is the bit that part number 2 attaches to on this diagram
http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E30/2 ... ater_hose/
it dosent show a clip on that side of it...and if the part looks like it does there how the hell am i getting coolant into the footwell?!
if it was leaking past the jubilee clip it would leak into the engine bay surely?

If you have a leak from the heater hose where it pushes onto the stub pipe on the bulkhead, the leaked coolant usually ends up inside the car.
The ETK pics. are not assembly diagrams, and you always need to refer to the parts list as well, and use common sense. There should be a #3 clip on each stub.

okay thanks brian. there is a clip on the hose, i imagine it isnt tight enough thats why the leak is occouring. inlet manifold off again then!Brianmoooore wrote:If you have a leak from the heater hose where it pushes onto the stub pipe on the bulkhead, the leaked coolant usually ends up inside the car.

Hose usually fits better if the stub pipe is turned up side down. This requires the removal of a small index tab at the flange joint.
