I did my roof a couple of years back and it's fookin awkward... took bloody hours to get it right... there's a sign company near me that does loads of vehicles.. if I was you I'd get looking in the yellow pages for local sign places.. most of them do wrapping now..

I used to apply vinyl to cars, trucks and signs for a living, and believe me, it takes a lot of practice (unless you're a natural). If you get the slightest bit of dirt or dust underneath it looks really crappy.
P.S. I hate to admit, but in the early 90s I applied Ford Motorsport zebra stripes to my RS 500 replica.....

the trouble is that it isn't as durable as paint.. and eventually just picks up crap and polishing it doesn't really help! taking it off is an arse too... wrapping a roof or a bootlid is ok.. bumpers etc are a no-no.. it's not tough enough and all those curves would be a nightmare.. even for a pro!

heres one someone did

looks alright, but not sure about hanging colour, when you open doors, engine bay, boot etc will look wrong. as mr maverick said, once it gets messed up, it would be a pita to get fixed. also dont know about the finish, can these be polished or waxed? are they matte or gloss?

a fella who owns a few businesses in southampton drives round in a hummer, hes had that wrapped in white, looks good to be fair, i spose on a car of that value and if your that well off, its a god way to change the color for a while if you got bored rather than sell it, although it would annoy the f**k out me every time you oened a door, engine bay etc in original color , sod that

hmm, at that sort of money i'd be tempted to have a go myself! he did a good job, although when removing it i'd have liked to have seen it with the bumpers left matt black, but all the other vinyl removed. low, nice wheels, msport bumpers but poverty spec colour schemedeanocool wrote:great find pukar. i just googled a bit and found this thread on an e90 diy vinyl wrap. check out how much the materials cost him!!!!

I had the vents on my vorsteiner bonnet wrapped in carbon fibre vinyl on my E60 and it all came off due to the heat. Now going to paint them gloss black.
There are companies out there that wrap the Bugatti's and Aston Martins in vinyl so it can be done but mucho dollars for a top job.

Depends how it's done!Kieran_n22 wrote:vinyl wrap = epic fail.
If prepped PROPERLY and aplied PROPERLY then there is no problem. It's the plebs who just whack it on that give the bad name to it. Of course if one has totally shocking paintwork then anything looks better
Same with a paint job though, done well looks good, bodged on then rubbish...
I work next door to a sign place. And I strip everything off the vehicles he wraps and build them back up.
It's hard extremely to do and to get right. If done properly then it is very durable assuming the paint is good underneath.
The finish on vinyl wrap is not great but looks good from a distance.

There is loads of sign places doing it round by us. Every single one I've seen has been sh1te. They look ok from a distance. A car sales guy we do plenty for had a few Range Rovers done. One was a "tastefull" white carbon look wrap. Door shuts and edges are the tell tale signs.

decent places do all the door shuts, but obviously it costs more, but year, you can usually tell from a few meters away that it's just a big sticker.
even high quality gloss finish wraps don't have the depth or shine of even a half decent paint job, and scratch / swirl very easily.
