Due to my imminent departure to somewhere nice and cold, I'll be leaving the car in the garage for some time.

I have a floorspace slightly larger than the car, so imagine that climbing out through the previously opened boot will feature. I am hoping to remove the battery and put it on a trickle charger in the house for the duration - firstly to keep the battery good, and secondly to provide even more of an obstacle for potential thieves. I should have room if I lean over one of the motorbikes to remove this

My plan is

1. Park car with boot open. No room to open the doors 8O
2. Pull the bonnet catch.
3. Exit car via the boot, lock garage from street.
4. Enter garage from house end, deadlock car on central locking.
5. Remove battery and close bonnet.
6. Do some acrobatics to lock / reinforce garage doors from inside :P

My question is. . . . . . . . With no battery on the car, will I be able to open the car from the drivers door if it is deadlocked, so that I can reinstate the battery?

TIA

Fi :D

I'm pretty sure the deadlocks are just mechanical so even with the battery disconnected you should be able to open the drivers door on the key.

Do a trial run by disconnecting the battery and then try and lock/unlock and leave the bonnet open first :D

you don't need to leave the tail gate up, just leave the windows down an inch or 2. Will be enough for the air to move about and not let the moisture build up

The key word in the above is 'should'!
With the deadlocks engaged you should be able to open the driver's door and the tailgate with the key.
Personally, I wouldn't lock the car at all. If anyone has managed to get past the barricaded garage door, they aren't going to be stopped by the car's locks. All you'll get is more damage.

Very good point, Brian.

Simon - the tailgate is my exit route when I've parked the car :P It'll be shut before the garage doors get closed. Or the door won't close according to my 'pacing out' :)

Why not 'booby :D trap' the garage door in such a way that the intruders are fried by mains voltage?

Or just bring the thing to me and I'll look after it?

Why, bless you for your offer, Malc :P

Unfortunately, unless tomorrow is one of those rare '48 hour days' I haven't got time to do what has to be done, let alone hunt down surrogate parents for my Touring winkeye

And Success :D Car unlocked without battery applied, so it's deadlocked (brimmed the tank so no room for condensation) to stop any petrol syphoning, battery is trickle charging nicely, the garage door has gone all Fort Knox.

Bit of joinery and chiselling to fit a final blind and I can think about packing :D I've got 17 hours before the plane takes off
