Is that actually true the early ones had 160bhp? I've read in a few magazines/websites that all 2.8's were 150bhp. Very nice car BTW, I do like the 80's Fords

Ford always claimed that the Capri 2.8i had 160bhp whereas other 2.8i fitted Fords only had 150 - the difference allegedly was down to the twin exhaust system on the Capri.

Almost certainly just marketing cobblers.

The 4 speed early 2.8i Capri's though were definately quicker than the later 5 speed ones

There aren't many Colognes that did even 150 bhp - 135-140 was all they were good for.

My xr4i shat its dizzy drive off the back of the cam somehow, new ford cam was £££ so a kent fast road went in instead, certainly livened the thing up a bit, the guy that bought it commented on how rapid it felt compared to the others he's test driven, I kept quiet and made the sale, was a minter with no dash cracks and not rust hiding under the cladding

B reg in caspian blue, no PAS or leccy windows sucked though :D

blew my 28 capri engine to bits, 83 on the Y single colour ( dark blue) was a horrid POS to drive and really not fast, but it was transport and at 19 years old was cheaper to insure than a 1600 Laser .

bought an S12 Silvia turbo afterwards, was rapid with a cossie intercooler scabbed in and a boost hike :D

Heres my brothers brand new 2.8i next to my 2.8 Ghia Granada back in 84. Bought from the Horsham Ford dealer next door to his Kitchen shop they ordered 2 white ones, A50 NDY and this one A60 NDY. I remember vividly having the thing sideways in the wet in the one way system outside Tiffins school in Kingston. 5 Speed model with all cloth Shark Grey trim. Unfortunately it was pre half leather, 7 spokes and LSD.

Check those NCT's!

Dont get me started on Mk2 Grannys.

after my early years were over in the back of a victor estate, a '79 2.8 GL auto estate was Dads car of choice( 3 kids, 2 dogs, cat and a a caravan ) replaced in '84 with a Ghia X in silver then in '87 a Scorpio lol.

He's got a Yaris now..........

My Uncle had a LHD Mk1 coupe in Signal Orange @ the time- Wrong but kinda cool with it.

He'd had a Zephyr Esate before that, went in the scrap , Dad nicked the rear lights for his trailer

:thumb: good simple cars, in simpler times.

My old Boss had/has a 1967 pre production mk1 shell that he has had since new!

As in he got it when he worked for Ford in 1967!!

He also owns a concours Twin cam, a very nice mk1 Lotus cortina and the last ever built RHD mk1 RS1600!

Ant, might remember him, Michael Cass!

I had 3 "real" Granadas Ant.

1977 facelift 3.0 Ghia in Diamond White with tan roof and interior.
1979 2.8 Ghia in Strato Silver with Black roof and black interior (pictured above)
1983 2.8 Ghia X in Glacier blue with blue Chatsworth trim.

Then went into Scorpios via a 1985 2.8i 4x4 Sierra.

Seriously have thought of buying another Mk1 or 2 Granada.

As a kid, Dad had a Silver 1974 3.0XL Manual ( ) followed by a Roman Bronze 3.0 auto GL with the obligatory tan roof. It's what got me hooked in the first place!

Among the many Ford turds that have passed through my hands,

Had a B reg Capri 2.8i Special in full strato silver with the 7 spokes and half leather.

I had a pair of mk2 2.8i Ghia X's one after the other. Both Y reg, one Caspian blue and one strato silver, both with blue chatsworth cloth.

The one i always wanted was the 2.8 INJECTION mk2 Granada with the white TRX's, de-chrome, recaros and LSD!

Nothing unfortunate about that Trev - the half leather trim was overrated and an open diff on these tail-happy turds made for entertainment in the wet :D

My memory is starting to get a bit hazy with old Ford turds but i'm sure all 2.8 Capri's had an LSD?

My B reg special certainly did.

No Barry :D

All 2.8's had opens until the specials (i.e. all the pepperpot cars) which were the ones with the half leather and 7 spoke RS wheeled cars. Which your B reg would have been.

Mark 2 Granadas are still very council. The Mark 1 isn't as good a car, but they look better, especially the early XL/GXL with the stainless hub caps. If there are any left, I'd look for an early (78-81) Opel Senator or Vauxhall Royale - silver with red velours.

I'm waiting for my dream 2200HLS to pitch up, black on black please.

Nah Andy. I had both a Senator (Series 2 Opel no less) 3.0i CD and many a granada and while the straight six was a nicer engine, the build quality just wasn't there. Nor were the sill or arches after a few years either  . They were a pretty car though, Hideous colours to the interiors though. Mine was royal blue velour (car was silver). Looked like a 70's 3 piece suite in a 1983 car! Mate had one with a mustard colour velour. Complete f*cking wrongness!

2200HLS?? I repeat, you are a warped wrongun!

Sorry Mo, for me to get hard it would have to be an '83 mk1 complete with "flying saucer" wheel trims and the early "upper mount" door mirrors not an '87 on mk2.

Your one looks like its an "L" or as its LHD a "CL".
