Anyone else done this yet? As mine is being used mainly for track work I am removing the original instrument cluster, and in doing so will lose the speed signal input to the ECU. Is this something that can be mapped out as such or will I need some kind of signal adaptor as per the Kempower item? Any help much appreciated!

Paul.

You would be best to look at the ETM drawings as I think there is hints in there about the conditioning circuit inside the gauge cluster.
With great challenges comes great engineering.

The wire will still be there, just connect it to the speed signal from the engine. Signal comes from the connector on the diff.

You can also buy some gismo of ebay to manipulate the signal, or delay it so you can hit 250km/t+ also.

Not as simple as just joining the diff signal direct oddisE30, as the signal needs converting.

I have ripped an old set of clocks apart, used a signal generator at work to frig an input to see what the output actually is, and then cut the circuit board around to suit. Fitted to the car on Sunday and worked a treat! Drawings also confirmed what I found and gave me the wire numbers for the loom plugs.

I am a bit confused. So you have installed the engine in a non-BMW car then?

Mine worked perfectly as i did just tap into the speed signal cable without connecting it to the dash-cluster instruments.

I had to buy a signal device to manipulate the signal pulse to get rid of the 250km/h limiter though. But that is a separate matter.

It's in an E30, but no longer has the BMW instrument cluster, so the signal from the diff needs converting into the correct format for the ECU....
