how hard is it to fit a 2.8 24v into my 2.5 12v e30 and who need to be moddifed etc

Depends on what equipment you want to use as there is no one set list of parts that have to be used.

Have a look at these shopping lists. You also benefit from being in the same county as the 24 legend that is DanThe, who can supply a lot of bits that reduce the headache of doing a 24v swap

Have you done much spannering before?

I don't go near wiring, so one of Dan's plug & play looms sorted that for the engine and electric fan setup. I'm also running some of his ready made exhaust manifolds which again make the job a lot easier.

At the end of the day, it's just a big list of compatible parts to bolt together. It is also a case of how much more you want to do as it's daft not to fit an E36 steering rack too as they transform the feel and steering of the car. So these other jobs add to the time taken to do the job and how much you end up spending

ive done bits and bobs to cars plus a few got friends said they will help me and they have built sum nice cars just want to get an idea what i need etc

has anyone fitted the e36 M3 6 speed gearbox to the 328i engine in their e30? the idea of 6 speed realy appeals to me.

I think it's fair to say that without DanThe, a lot of 24v e30's would still be 12 valvers.

The short answer is that the engine fits in and bolts up extremely easily, when fitted with E36 engine mount arms and an E34 M50 sump.
The work that's required to finish the job concerns the inlet manifold and brake servo partly trying to occupy the same space on one side, and the exhaust/steering linkage/ bodywork doing the same on the other side.
There's also radiators and cooling fans to sort out, and the M52 engine wiring loom to adapt to mate up with the E30 loom socket and to place the ECU in a suitable place.
