BBS split rim replicas (lenso etc) closest dimensions
Moderator: martauto
Evening all,
Finally come to my senses and decided to pick some BBS styled split rims this summer, sadly i can not afford the genuine thing, so replicas from other manufactures will have to do (better than nothing!).
Question is... had a good trawl through various websites and ebay etc, Which reasonable brand alloys of this kind are the closest to the original 15'' bbs e30 alloys which came standard or as optional extra?
Reason being is the car is sat 60mm all around, i dont want to move too far in or out on the offset and want to keep them as close as possible to the BMW dimensions (after all they did not spend millions on perfecting them i can imagine)
Closest i have found so far is 7.5J, 16'', offset 20 'Lenso' branded.
Anybody know off any closer? or have a link to any for sale?
All help highly appreciated as per!

Avoid the Dare replica wheels there has been a few posts about how poor quality they are.
Thanks Taylor for the warning, as for Ronals. Very nice, but i can not seem to find a 'split rim' style like the lensos, why are lensos so bad for the price? i know hteyre knock off BBS's but do they fall apart or cause problems?
Lenso are cheap for a reason. There are far nicer rims, from proper manufacturers, available for the same money. Lenso have a reputation for fracturing especially on potholes or if kerbed. It's not just what they look like that matters.
Fake splits are a bit naff anyway. My winter rims cost me £300 - brand new & in there boxes and being Borbet, they're good & strong.

Very nice Hoobs, im really after split rims however.
Had a spy around, OZ Vegas 16'' split rims look good, but hard to come by
Minus 2K BBS's which other 'well known trustworthy brands' have produced a split rim (or style) alloy, with the lattice centre? must be a few without falling for the 'Lenso' trap

I bought these off here for 500 quid and apart from drilling out and re-tapping one bolt hole, am just doing a home refurb'. Elbow grease and Autosolve metal polish.
There are proper splits out there if you look hard enough and have a little patience.

I have lenso wheels, you can get 15" 7.5 with a 20mm offset. I have run them for a good while and have no problems with the quality of them. Here's a link to my for sale ad so you can see them with a 40mm drop:

These look nice if you prefer originals over replicas. would look good with a small spacer to bring them out a bit.

Is that all the Borbet ones cost? Are they Borbet A's? Thought they had more of a flat centre cap as well? Will have to look in to getting a set now I know they are so cheap lol.Hoobs wrote:Fake splits are a bit naff anyway. No, got them from a teenager in Cornwall who opted for something else. He worked for a tyre & wheel place. I can try and find his number? I'm now thinking they were 350 not 300.
I've just about finished rebuilding my BBS now. Just waiting to check they hold air with no leaky. I may be biased but they look the boll-ox!

Just finished my track e21's BBS too. I bought them cheap off here but needed lots of work. Looks like they were split with a chisel and a hammer!

Lenso's are ok and look very good on E30's (a lot better than Borbet's - no one has them nowadays?). Obviously genuine BBS splits are the best but for a cost effective solution the Lenso are great (lets face it little cash around now to spend out packet on genuine BBS..)
Just my two pence worth

I've read a few people have run Dare without issues but Lenso are well known for lacking quality. They might be a bit cheaper to buy initially but if you have to keep refurbing them you'll soon be out of pocket. It's not just looks that's the issue though either. It's important that all alloys are strong enough for purpose or else they'll simply buckle in no time.
