There is no difference
Yes, most E30s have rust issues, and often the owner is blissfully ignorant as he continues to polish and attach tat.
It is a well known fact that Scottish cars are in a league of their own when it comes to rust and most knowledge people I know in the sunny south will not touch one with a barge pole unless it is dirt cheap.
I can't and won't comment on the condition of the OPs car as I have not seen it but I would be very suprised if 5 mins with a screw driver didn't bring rust dust and tears
bring them on !

Exactly why the one I have lived the best part of its life in dorset for its first 19 years, they are a rare beast up here with no rot, some of the dogs I viewed before the one I bought were far gone.
I reckon that if boyd is saying its a good one with no rot then it will be as he does know his way about them.

i'll tell you how good it is, Boyd actually owned this very car a couple of yrs ago with some intent to break it, 2yrs+ later it's still on the road, fully restored cosmetic's, not to mention the countless amount of new part's fitted and Boyd is still saying it's a good example

Considering the grief the OP has had, and that no-one could really have predicted what happened, I don't think accusations of rustiness will help this thread much.
What I'm really impressed with is how many people are rallying around to help the guy with parts and labour and proper factual info. That's what the Zone's for, surely
I look forward to the happy ending (not happy finish

It's in good hands with Boyd.
Don't think anyone could have predicted your engine failure. So its just down to simple bad luck unfortunately.
I have seen this car in the flesh when Ian was it's owner and it really is a nice motor.
I hope to see it in the flesh once more, this time with a new owner and a wee freshened engine.
All the best mate.

I'd have a very different attitude than you after all this?
Why do you need a new donk now? Have you shelled out on a chain and guides etc?

Why so much???318isPMK wrote:No Im at the point we need to decide to shell out for it all.
I want to keep the engine but cant spend 1600 on it!
Max budget is around a grand to 1200 I started with 700 and pushed to top it up to that mark.
Im not happy but i cant keep letting it get to me.
Buy a second hand engine!
I know you don't know for sure that its going to be ok but, You could buy 5 secondhand engines for £1600
