Does anyone know if all 318is's are fitted with a cat? If you look it up on the ETK it seems that they are but I thought the earlier ones were non-cat.

The reason I am asking is that I need to replace the exhaust on my (1989) 318is soon. Does anyone have any suggestions to the best place to get one - other than the stealer? I am after a standard exhaust - or at least one that is reasonably quiet!

Cheers

The ETK is confusing. Not all 318iS came with cats. Mine doesn't have one. If you are looking for the rear half of the exhaust system, i.e middle and back box, I think this is the same on all iS cars. These are available from Bosal, but not cheap. As far as I can see, the iS exhaust is unique to this model.

if u look by the AFM in an IS engine bay, there will be an unplugged connector, if its unplugged theres no cat,

also the first midbox is called a resonator, whatever that is :?

I remember there was a connector dangling near my AFM - I ti-wraped it up. I guess that means there is no cat then. So if its a non-cat where is the best place to get the entire exhaust.? The middle and back boxes are no good on thier own as I think the front box has lost a baffle judging by the noise it is making...

if it was loose and dangling yes it would mean your are cat-less

best place to get an exhaust is eisemann but you need fookin deep pockets

supersprint do a well good mid and back box apaprently this is what im saving for

failing that just build your own pipes to de-mid-box it that shud liven it up  winkeye

The front part of the exhaust system is BMW only, i've never heard of an after market one.

Try a wanted ad, the likes of demlotcrew / Jonb / Pacerpete may have one...

95% of 318iS never had a CAT fitted, if it does, then just rip it out!

I had the two rear boxes replaced on mine, new ones made up by powerflow, cost Ԛ£190 all in.
