They're nice enough but need the right spec. As long as you avoid the Urban gay-line version with white grilles and stick to the M Sport (which looks good in Crimson red with the M5 stle wheels), you'll be okay. The 118i is pretty good and does almost diesel like MPG. It's a typical modern BMW, nicely built and drives very well but is hard to get very excited about. The latest Astra drives just as well and looks a lot better. If the MiTo was reliable with decent dealer service, I'd look at the Giulietta as well.

lookin at the 116 petrol sport. or possibly the 118d sport.
both twin turbos.
salesman was trying to push for the D as it was faster (slower 0-60 times according to the book), but 12mpg better off...

It's quicker than the Alfa, but great economy, and seeing as its for the wife it ticks all the boxes ;-)

125i and 125d both go on sale on march in, they have added an M sport trim level now too, both 218hp, I think one of these could be on the cards. It's not a twin turbo, rather twin scroll, essentially It's one turbo but with an exhaust inlet split in two with two sets of turbine blades but driving one impeller shaft.

116i and 118i are single turbo, not twin. Its a twin power turbo with 2 intakes & 2 exhausts

Edit: sorry didnt see the comment above
