Hi guys & gals
Can anyone give me a bit of advice to check my passenger mirror, which aint working. Drivers ok, I've tried another main switch on the drivers door, doesn't make any difference, only drivers side remains working. When I switch over to the passenger side and try to work the mirror, something is clicking somewhere, but haven't sussed where yet. I want to get my multi meter out, but need your advice on how to proceed. I've cleaned up connector plugs going into each mirror, fuse box fuse ok. There must be a relay somewhere is there?
Thanks in anticipation

i would first clean the multiplug in the drivers door post ...the same as the one that always causes the central locking faults as the mirror wires go through the same plug and when they rust it can cause the same problems ....on mine some wires were ok which meant the mirror only moved one way and sometimes it just clicked

Thats interesting, nice one Gazza, thanks. This would certainly make sense, bearing in mind the water that has been coming in there.

Cheers

Mine did the same clicking noise when I bought it and solved it by cleaning the electric switch. May not make a huge difference in yours but I am sure it will help anyway !

Thanks for that. I assume you mean you changed the motor & housing from the mirror. I've thought of this, took off the plastic bit of inspection/trim from the bottom of the mirror housing, but then couldn't see how the hell that helped to gain further access. How do you get the motor out for example. Or do you take the glass off to get access to the motor that way perhaps.
Cheers

My bet's on one of the door multiplugs for sure... horrible things!

Failing just tracing it with a multimeter, you could try plugging the passenger mirror in on the drivers side? It'll clear up whether you've got any problem with the mirror itself... :thumb:

i had exact same prob, all i did was remove the mirror and see whats goin on. the motor was working but the plastic fork thingy which connects to the motor was out of place and not moving. all i did was pull it back a bit so the forks lined up and hey presto. :D

E30 mirrors have one electric motor and one electric clutch each. The same motor that moves the mirror up and down, also moves it from side to side.
The click you hear is from the clutches. Both mirrors should click at the same time, but only one motor should move at a time.
Failure of the drivers door mirror to move can be a failed left/right switch, or a poor connection in the door pillar socket of the blue/white and/or black/white wires either or both sides.
