ford have made a lot of awsome cars, ok the "quality" of some of them were not to bmw etc levels, but then nor were the prices
and thing with models like xr3`s , rs cars, etc that makes them such head turners, talk about cars...is that everyone has their own memories of them, far more so than e30s, everyone knows someone or has/mates owned escorts,xr3s etc , had them in the street as they gew up, or whatever, a lot more than e30s , and moving back to cortinasgranadas,mk2,1 escorts etc , real "peoples" cars ,if it were
love em myself !!!
cars like rs500 cossies, rs2000s, tickford capri- 1984 the tickford capri, ford have made some fooking cars !!!

I have a soft spot for a nice RS500. I would also like another MK2 RS but the prices are now obscene. In many cases proper enthusiasts are being priced out of the market imho, which is a shame. Nice for those that own one though.cars like rs500 cossies, rs2000s, tickford capri- 1984 the tickford capri, ford have made some fooking cars

To be fair, it's a rare estate version, and must have had some money spent to make an old Essex V6 produce 176 bhp!

I still think this is a really good place to put some money, RS1600i's just don't do it for me!

But unless there is something wrong with this car it has to be one of the best bargains out there.. after an M3 cab of course

There was a sunburst red '84 A plate 3i for sale from someone in the RSCOC - was reckoned to be verty special and virtually concours. £4000 was mentioned.
The Mark 3 had the proper suspension (Billies iirc( but the Mark IV was softened up plus later ones had that EEK!! 4 nonsense. Gotta be K Jet really.

Escorts are making big money these days but look how M3's have gone last few years. Because both are very usefull in the rally stages etc they get used and sometimes destroyed and when this happens the demand goes higher. So escorts didn't make big power when factory but bda, or bdg when 2.0 where putting out 240 bhp in the 70's @ 9000rpm and these days can do over 300bhp. That's not so bad compared to an S14 at 2.3 or 2.5 litres in there various touring and rally tunes!! Just a thought that's all!!

The change over literally coincided with the change from Y to A reg in aug '83.
Same with the XR3i and every other mk3 escort in '83.

My mum had a 1984 Stratos Silver XR3i MkIII on the A-plate. It rusted like mad - I had to weld up both outer sills which were paper-thin. I liked it to drive, quite responsive and rapid enough, but the CVH bottom end seized on hers so a replacement had to be fitted.
It was later sold to a transvestite, who went by the name of Mrs Hooker!
I remember being quite jealous of some annoying chavvy type at college who's dad worked in the motor trade and bought him an X-reg XR3 in Caspian Blue for his first car, while the rest of us poor students having just passed our driving tests were having to make do with cheap old low insurance group turds.

My step dad had a stratos silver B reg mk3 XR3i and when i was 11 i thought it was rapid!
The german built XR3i's (and other Fords) were always better built and were the ones to go for.
I had a black '84 B reg XR3i which had covered 54k from new and was a rot free german built one. That was back in '99.

You'd think that the fire damage may have caused the shell to warp somewhat.
It would certainly take alot of cleaning up to make it useable again.
And the seller doesn't have any ID to go with it, so its a distinct possibility it doesn't even belong to him! You could go to all the effort of restoring it only for the rightful owner to claim it back.

Looks gorgeous! Bit steep though.
That's the snag with such a car, it could never be used as originally intended, so it just becomes another garage queen or museum piece.
