putting an S50 into a E30 m3 and want to know which servo unit people are using so not to modify the standard inlet manifold
Also have you had to alter the brake pedal or not?

I had a Polo one.. Not going to be using it anymore. Was a straight fit on a RHD e30..

More worried about the left hand drive car with the pedal and servo that would have line with the standard engine and now due to the E36 inlet manifold will have to be moved
ie not inline!

Polo servo will fit both left and right hand drive with no modification at all, Clio servo will need moving over about 40-45mm. I have no idea how you could achieve that on a LHD

Sorry to hi-jack the thread a bit - what year / model VW Polo Servo is a straight swap?
Cheers,

Yes, I am. Mine is from a mk3 polo G40 but I believe any polo of similar age will fit. However it is very small, While i like the assistance it gives others might not.crossie wrote: are you running a polo servo??

With the s50 Conversion do you still run s50 gear linkages or do shorter linkages have to be fitted??penton08 wrote:Yes, I am. That particular item is only for a single circuit though. I had one similar in my old MK1 Escort.Demlotcrew wrote:You could always fit a remote servo?

It is you're right Ian, but having driven a car with this fitted to the front brake circuit only it felt really nice, obviously you would need to fit two for front and rear, but these are a great option for pedal boxes.

I guess the Polo one is the same as the golf 2 one: 7 inch diameter
According to some pics I found on the net it's not a direct fit but needs to be moved 55mm to get it to fit:

This picture was taken after it was moved.
In some time I can tell you first hand if it's true since I've modified my pedal box to move it 55 mm. Btw: the picture was taken on a RHD. I've modified my LHD.

I found a servo which fits without modification.. Early Polo servo. I and Penton08 both run/ran this setup. I will be going manual next time, so have a servo up for grabs.

Can you be more specific? Year of Polo? And does the E30 Master Cyl. fit to it? But would be interested in your servo if it means i dont have to fart about moving/cutting/lengthening etc...
Cheers!

Pictures? Based on the posted picture above it would be nearly impossible to mount one without moving it. I've never done this so I'm not speaking from first experience but I'm trying to prepare as best as I can.Jhonno wrote:I found a servo which fits without modification.. Early Polo servo. I've a golf 2 servo which is 7 inch in diameter and I've modded a pedal assembly to move it 55mm. I'll fit this on the car before I even attempt to put the S50 in.
So Jhonno please post me some pictures it might save me a lot of work!

The picture is of a golf servo, A polo servo is smaller hence it fits and a golf one wont!! The polo servo does not give as much assistance as the golf one, and a clio servo gives more than both. In a ideal world you would fit a clio servo moved over.

How large is a polo one? I've had both the 10 inch golf GTi one and switched voer to the golf 2 7 inch one. I believe the 10 inch golf one will hit the fuse box if you move it over.

6.5 inch wide polo servo
Do people use larger master cyclinders as this servo only came with a 19mm - my old saxo had a 23mm as standard.

What calipers/brakes will you be running? Smaller m/c will give more travel but less effort to counter the smller servo. I'd try 23mm to begin with.. I ran a 25mm but had bigger e36 M3 calipers.

735i.. Didn't realised you'd got the brakes aswell. Can't recall the piston dia. Think Uwe was running the standard M3 m/c.

You will need a 25mm master for 540 calipers too, unless you are changing the calipers then keep your standard E30 master cylinder
