ant,

Sounds interesting and a great new venture... do you have any details of cost fully fitted etc and what power they kick out etc... Might stop the timewasters...

I believe there are a couple of fellas doing similar conversion for VW golf with Audi TT engines etc called Voodoo motorsport... they from memory have a really good website with every conceiveable detail on, so someone knows in advance what they will get and exactly how much and timescales too.

Hope it works out.

OK, had a few genuine enquiries on this now, thanks to those who expressed an interest.

This post is intended as a guide for costs on the conversion, it can go either way depending on your requirements

Costs wise is very dependant on what power level you wanted, provided your engine is in good working order with good compression a low boost ( up to 7.5psi) conversion will put out a safe reliable 250 lbs/ft 240+ bhp all day every day.

If I had to supply all the components and fabricate the charge pipes etc from scratch you'll be looking at Ԛ£1500- Ԛ£2200 supplied and fitted as a drive in/out conversion, timescale would be approx 2 weeks from start to finish, depending again on how hot you want to go.

Higher boost on the stock bottom end is possible but larger injectors will be required, they'll increase costs by Ԛ£300, max the stock enginme will take is 14 psi, longevity would be compromised if you were a heavy right foot user.

cost per bhp is prety good, lets compare with some other popular upgrades.

Strip head, new internals and perfoprmance cam, refit and chip to suit,

Costs cԚ£600 as a DIY project, expect 190 bhp maximum = Ԛ£31.57 per bhp gained

Fit turbo for low boost high torque conversion, expect 240 bhp minimum

cost c Ԛ£1500 = Ԛ£27.73 per bhp gain

Lets not get carried away with peak figures, the linear torque response with the turbo makes the car very easy to drive without needing to work the engine hard all the time, indeed midrange urge is something to 8O at.

could these be adapted for my 2.7 at some stage?

My only real concern is, fuel consumption. If i'm driving normally, would it be drinking it all the time? I wouldn't it to be giving 12mpg on a good day, if u get me?

you could save some costs and do both Simon winkeye Use some nice low comp ETA slugs and dont deck the block, she'll be ready for 20+psi then dude

fuel consumption on mine averages about 24 Mpg in normal driving, thats the usual to and from work slog too, falls off whan boosting hard, but hey , its a small price to pay

yeah i'm not worried about it drinking when going for it, but if it could manage something good when not trying to kill it, would be a bonus.

got me thinking again, i've got the rods and crank, but which pistons to use........

I would love to do something like this to my engine, but i hear so much negative things about Turbo's that it scares me off. I also cant seem to make up my bloody mind what i want. 1 minute i want an E36 M3 Evo lump, then i want a supercharger, then a Turbo, then a 3.5. I think i need to have a good long hard think and choose one, then we'll take it from there :D

Have you got any pics of any of your conversions please Ant ?

Ben,

you really have to drive a car fitted with a Turbo or a 3.2 evo engine or 3.5 m30.

They all give huge power (M30 being the least potent) but all have different characteritics.

Teh M3 engine will give a linear power delivery with lots and lots of power top end of the rev range.

The M30 will be just a big grunty 6 pot, bit lazy to rev.

The Turbo 2.5 will be extremely quiet! The midrange power is simply phenomninal, its just goes in any gear and if the right size turbo is used there is very little lag indeed. The noise is very very cool aswell!
The best thing about the turbo route is that your engnie stays where it is (if its low comp) and the rest is bolt on a wiring. No need to remove engines etc! Your car also stays off the road the least.
If the engine did blow its very very cheap to get another one.

Try to make Lakeside where Ant will have his turbo SE, take a ride and you'll be very surprised at how refined and powerful it is.

I have been seriously considering something like this for my car. I really wish I was in the UK to see Ant's car and maybe even give Ant some more business :) . I don't know if I really like the idea of a turbo RWD for the dirt racing I do (maybe fun but difficult to drive quickly) but if it spools up and drives like people say it does it sounds like it could be ok and kW per $ (or bhp per pound  ) it sounds like one of the best options.

I would be terribly tempted, I know that.

This is great stuff Ant, I hoped this would happen!

Thanks to all expressing interest, I have recieved a few emails/pms with regard to a low comp high boost conversion. I am currently costing this up as a DIY bolt on(ish) or complete install service

It wont be cheap, but not silly money either

Will update this soon

Are you only offering this conversion for the M20, just wondering as i'm thinking about maybe turboing my M10 in the future and wondered if you could do a set up for that?

Won't be for a while yet though.

Cheers
