It's not a left hand thread, but I do know the damn thing is tight!

I managed to do mine with a scaffold bar with the car in gear, foot on the brake and the handbrake on!

Some of the stuff i work on is tightened up to 1000Nm plus and if theres one thing I've learned its that shock is the key. Socket must be impact(black one)or at least single hex shape. Use your scaff pole as before but while trying to undo it get someone to twat the bar with a club hammer about ten inches away from the socket in the direction you want it to go.
Soak the whole area in wd40 24hrs before you try it
good luck

john

wrap your hands with rags so the shock doesn't hurt too much!

Personally I'd be a bit wary of putting that much torque through the gearbox. It's something like 450Nm on the front bolt, plus an extra factor to overcome the initial friction, whereas the 325i engine only makes about 220Nm iirc.
325i Twin Turbo (until 10am 01/12/07 :( )

if your engine is still in you can put a breakerbar on the bolt making sure its a good fit and rest it on the ground and crank the ignition a couple of times works every time for me

Hi you could always do what happened to me when i done the tappets on my touring. leave the socket and ratchet bar on the nut then turn engine over. of course you will need a new rad, fan, viscous unit, water pump and the cross over pipe. But it works a treat the nut just fell on the floor with socket still on the end. lesson dont have help from people who have no idea about cars.
Please dont do this it costs a bit to fix.
