i finally got the car home on friday evening, and had a good look over it on saturday. i'm very happy with it. the pictures i've taken though dont seem to show the colour as dark as it is, i'll have to see if i can turn the flash off.

anyway, i had a play with it today.
i need to be able to get the car in and out of the garage to work on it, but the engine is in the way, so the best place for that was back in the bay!
i'd forgotten how tight it was going back in
also put the rear quater windows back in, which took longet than expected, with a lot of swearing at the rubbers, also put the sunroof rear drains back in.

that prop is off an e60 m5. i bought it as i needed the first few inches for my own prop. i may use the u/j's off it too. i got it for a good price.

i'll be making a small alteration to that crossmember, to move the rack closer to its original position, to deal with bump steer. i dont think it will be affected though, not until you've almost got full lock on.

i've been bolting things back onto the car after getting it back from the bodyshop.........
sunroof & mechanism
head-lining
boot trim
rear axle
door trims.
almost finished those things today, and i've started to look at what i'm going to do about brake activation. i think i'm probably going to mount a servo behind the dash. going to have a deeper look at it this week.

yeh, i've looked at remote servo's henry, and i've thought about pedal box's adem, but i quite fancy having a play with mounting a servo behind the dash to be honest.

after looking in more depth at the brake activation, i decided not to mount a servo inside/behind the dashboard. its possible to do it, but there just isn't enough room to hide it completly.

so i've decided to mount the sevo/master cylinder in header tank area, as i'll be using the M5 header tank.
i've used a clio servo, and will use a m/cyl off a 750i.
i'm basicly using some of the parts off a rhd e30, mainly the rod that goes across the inside of the bulkhead, behind the heater box. the part i've fitted on the 'battery tray' is a 'modified' pivot bracket from behind the rhd glovebox. i haven't done the pedal box yet, i'll get pics of that once its done.




















if you look close at this next pic, you can see the hole i've made to allow the activation rod to come through the bulkhead, and i've used a rear axle abs 'grommet' to neaten up the hole

um...yes,i suppose so,
its mounted here, the same way as its mounted in the rhd car.

each leg of the 'L' pivot piece, is at different levels,
so the rod from the pedal, can cross the servo push rod without interference.

i'll get a pic up of it once i've done it.

i've almost finished the 'in car' part of the brake activation today.
just need to clean up some welds, and tidy up some of the cut-out's etc, but here's a few pics of how i've gone about it. it's mostly made up using the parts off a rhd car. i'll also have to relocate the heater pipes slightly.
i probably would of put the servo/m cyl down behind the nearside headlight area, but i wanted the original airboxes, and one of them will be in that area.











i thought i'd try and get some of the car, without the flash, although it does have a fair bit of dust on it now........

Liking how this is coming along.
I think it would be worth blanking up the master cylinder and bleeding it to test though.
I would be interested to see how much the brake pullrod flexes now that its been turned into a pushrod. This is something I always look at when designing a linkage.
Hope I havent thrown a spanner in the works but it would be a pain to find out after the car is built.

no probs sean,
i had a good play about with this before i decided to use it. its suprisingly strong. i could get most of my bodyweight on it, and it was still straight.
i would of used it as a 'pull' rod, but there wasn't enough room to put the reverse lever on the clutch side of the pedal box.
i've 'tested' this set-up after i'd fitted it,and i was pleased with its performance, i'm confident it will be fine.
