...I've been reading with some interest the thread about the butchered wiring in a cabrio...
It was said that the loom runs from the front right corner via the left side to the rear right corner...
Now, my questions are:
Is this right/left as you sit in the car or as you view from the front?
and
Is it the same for a LHD as fro a RHD vehicle?
Reason is, I am trying to cure a persistant whine (probably alternator induced) on the stereo in my M3. In this vehicle the (Alpine) head unit is connected to the (Magnat) amp in the boot via signal cables running down the right hand (passenger) side of the car. I didn't notice that there were many other cables, on installation, other than the central locking stuff from the door on that side running, roughly, under the passenger seat and a small amount of wiring under the rear seat, presumably for the fuel pump and sender. My signal leads (and the return speaker cables) therefore are fairly seperate from any major power source and cross the only wires at right angles (to reduce inducted noise). However, there remains a whine..not bad, but still there!
On my 325 I have a similar system (Alpine/Caliber in this case)...However, the signal cables run down the left (passenger side) of this RHD car, as do the return speaker cables...But from what was implied, the main loom is here too, and this should make MORE noise...but it doesn't. The system on the 325 is totally silent!
Hence my questions, before I rip out all the seats (again) in the M3 to re-wire it all...
Cheers
