Yet another temp switch and thermostat question

Right, I have a single speed fan to be used on my car.

Will I be doing the right thing if I go for a 80 thermostat and use a universal 90/85 temp switch?

You want the fan to be switching close to the thermostat temp, BMW do an 80/88 switch which will be perfect

You mean that as soon as the coolant will start flowing thru the rad the fan will start blowing?

The switch you mean, that switches on at 88 and of at 80?

No, the coolant in the rad should always be cooler than anywhere else, otherwise your 80 stat would be no use. The temp switch is usually close to the top of the E30 rad on the RH side so when this part of the rad gets above the stat temp the fan will come on.
The BMW switch is a twin function, so on at 80, then on again at 88, easily wired to be used as either 80 or 88

Yep, to switch on at 80, and stay on past 88 you need to wire both outputs together

Allright, I ordered an 80C stat from ECP (the dutch version tho) but I think it's the wrong one.

I can only find 88 and 92 ones for m40 and m50 motors and the only 80 I can find is used in m20's

I always thought that an m20 stat will not fit an m50??

Not the case with my switch, I tested it in a cup of boiling water. 80deg = one on, 88deg = both on. But the switch I used is this one: 61318376440.
