Thinking about swapping for a touring... How's the space?

i managed a complete bathroom suite in my touring. the bath to be fair was on a roof rack but the rest including toilet, sink, cistern, taps, shower, towel rail etc was in the back easily.

Tourings/Wagons are where its at. Having your pie and eating it, they're the best all rounders going
i love Tourings...an E30 with room for loads of spares, exhausts, wings, doors, even a bonnet. unclip the rear seats and you can get shedloads of parts in there. i have moved complete interiors (front seats, rear seats, headrests, door cards, carpet and dashboard many times

I too love a touring, remove the decent morsels and you can fit far more scrap in one than in a saloon,

what a load of sh!t, they're more balanced than a saloon. Less snappy on limit and more progressive when over steering

If the touring had been conceived earlier, then I'm sure BMW wouldn't ever have bothered with the M3, the 'M' badge would never have existed, and we wouldn't have to put up with them stuck to the bootlids on tarted up 325 saloons.

Saucer of milk for Brian !
And M1, M535i and 3.0 CSL.....
The reality is that there is little difference to these so called handling and aerodynic benifits.
Any dug out those Cd figures yet.............?

Barry the fact my C2 wagon has shown your sport the way round the ring you still have the blinkers!
No matter how small people think its there. And thats the difference between good and great!

I think it's safe to say that's down to you having more experience of the ring and a more powerfull car.Simon13 wrote:Barry the fact my C2 wagon has shown your sport the way round the ring you still have the blinkers!

I bet if you put Dave or Karan in my sport it would make you and your touring look very silly.
The difference is negligible.
Remember I reshelled the s50 from a touring into a 2dr shell. I used it in anger on track in both shells.
There was no obvious apparent difference in handling.
Both top ended, both hung sideways plenty of times.
I speak from experience.
This whole touring fan boi nonsense is bordering on as bad as 318iS freaks!

Oh come on! Post editing, you're not trying hard enough!
Next you'll be saying all tourings have galvanised roofs and that their hallowed chassis dynamics were developed in secret by Hans Stuck and Roberto Ravaglia!

your the only person who bashes tourings i know. Why hate! If you can't notice the difference then thats a shame.
I think you'll find Karan and Dave prefered tourings for sideways work

I'm not bashing Tourings Simon, I'm bashing the fan bois who are trying to hype up something that is of little consequence.
And I'll think you'll find that I haven't said there isnt a difference, I have been saying that the difference is negligible, barely noticeable.
Maybe you did restore the wrong car Simon "touring fan boi" 13?!
Tourings are ok and have their place but neither a saloon or are touring are "better" in any "real" way other than financially.

I might be a little dim when it comes to E30's but surely given the pro's and con's of each it's up to you and your wallet what you decide. It's like buying a PS3 or Xbox 360 some say PS3, some say Xbox 360 both have pro's and con's none is better than the other, because there better in some areas than others.
I bought the touring because from the side it looked like a shark.

that's the main reason I prefer the touring. Can hang the back out with much more control. I find face lift saloons to Handel the same on a track day as the touring. But the most nimble and felt the lightest for track was the chromies. Probley so little between them but just my feelings.Simon13 wrote:your the only person who bashes tourings i know. Why hate! Oh you're quite right Pete, i would have (and have had) another touring for lugging scrap about but it would be an E36 or E46.pacerpete wrote:Admit it Barry, you want a touring and you need a touring but Kelly won't let you have one !
I can't convince Kelly to have one though and it would be her who would have to have it as a man of my caliber cannot be seen driving a "van with windows"

A man who is worried about the image he portrays does not drive an E39 'sport' innit !

it is indeed a pretty much negligible difference, the cd change is worth about 2mpg at best .

i went for a touring for my project purely because i like estate cars generally and modifying them 6 years ago wasnt as common as the saloons.
ive no idea of the weight balance before the conversion but after it was 52/48 which is near perfect. when you lose the back end as long as you dont panic they almost correct themselves making the driver look a hero.

I can fit my mountain bike in the back of my touring without taking the wheels off. How the fuck did this turn into 5 pages for this question?!cee wrote:So, I ride bikes a lot, and could do with something with a bit more room to save me putting them on the roof. What's the space like inside the touring? With and without the seats down?
Any interior shots?
Would it still satisfy my urges or would I miss the iS?
