Very sad, really, as like they mentioned on Top Gear, Lancia came up with lots of pioneering innovations for cars, they looked pretty good and at least the engines were usually pretty special.

Just let down by the rust and silly design faults.

In fact, they introduced such things as the monococque bodyshell and 5-speed gearbox.

Technically, the Betas were in fact Fiats, as they were the first new Lancia following the Fiat take-over.

I, mercifully briefly, owned a 17,000 mile 1973 Fiat 126, which also rusted like mad; I had to fit new rear outer wheelarches and weld the front panel. In fact, I sold it as it was developing crusty rust bubbles below the windscreen (scuttle panel) and rear window, and would have been a windows-out mission to fix properly.

Very rare - no such thing as an Escort Lotus. It's a Twin Cam - and one with some colour mismatch issues between n/s door and rear wings and some suspect panel gaps on the other side as well as the wrong grille from an Escort Super - Twin Cams had black grilles.

It's alright for £10-15 grand I suppose but if you were spending silly money, you'd want the proper AVO built RS1600.

That one has been for sale for about 2 years. Just waiting for someone stupid/rich enough! £65k is making them look a bit daft though - it's clearly not worth any more than 30k.

Yes it is much too much money. There have been 2 RS1600's for sale this year circa 45K!

My fast Ford was a bargain for 7k! :D

That does indeed look nice.I like these.Sounds good but the "scheel" drivers seat seems to have taken a battering! Mine survived another 40k and were still nice.They are very deep bolsters on these though. 8)

£10K for what amounts to little more than a jumped-up XR3i! 8O I remember seeing these going for just a grand or so only a few years back.

A very tatty RS1600i may have been a grand 10 years ago but they are, like most old sought after Fords, going for a lot more now.

They were a homologation special and competed in group A touring cars and group N rallying.

They are different to XR3i's in many ways.

I'd agree with that by Rodderz, Fuzzy ^. No one should do it for the money, but it's silly to ignore it's a good feeling knowing your motor is going up in value without you even touching it, aside from keeping it in excellent condition.

This forum has a good knack of identifying a few sacks of shite, one of my own cars included, fair play I say :)

i was joking about waxoyling it. im not in it for the money belive it or not lol. my e30 that ive got at the moment is in it for the long run. i bought it because its a good base (i think). my fave colour (calypso red), its a 2dr, already got an m30 in it which does need abit of tinkering, and imaculate is interior. ive got big plans for it to make sure ill never make any money on it.. ported polished head with high lift cam, engine tidy up, 5 stud conversion with bbs or oz etc split rims and stupid suspension setup lol, respray the same colour etc..... then once thats all done buy another engine to strip it down and rebuild it for a turbo conversion (might take a while).
i cant see myself selling it because i like it too much even though e30s aint as good to drive or as fast as even e36s but there just something about them which i cant explain. its all about the e34s though!! lol :mad:

Back in 2005 I bought a '72 1300GT more door with a 1700 X-flow and about £3k in receipts, all it wanted was a new floor pan in the passenger footwell. I got it for £500 and sold it for £600 without doing the welding when I realised I couldn't afford to get it painted properly with still being a skint apprentice.

In hindsight I should have really stored it away somewhere....... I even threw away some genuine Mexico wings because they were rusty!

At least I know I'll not be the only one who's done something like that!

definatly, theyve always fetched good money, and one of the cars i dream to own one day, i own and drive a nice mk3 escort and its great fun to drive, theres are greater a following and love for old fords on a much bigger scale, as they are head turners/comment cars, than e30s for sure

the original post- when you concider the figures some of the rare mk1 escorts fetch, and how rare shells are these days anyway, 3 or 4k for a shell with intent on restoring/turning in to a replica if you dont have 30k+ for an original, isnt mega bucks is it and people want those shells..

my boss works for ford and has done for over 20 years, he gave me a book the other week ford released for the centenary that they gave to him, featuring every ford model ever made, super it is
