Pre-Facelift Wiring - Rev Counter

I've tried searching and did find one topic that suggests that pre-facelift cars have different wiring for the rev-counter than facelift cars... But it didn't tell me what the difference was.

Basically our rev counter doesn't work in our M52 conversion, the engine is in an '87 pre-facelift 320i. We have the black wire from the M52 plug and I think it goes to pin 9 on the C101 although I'm not sure what comes out the back of pin 9 on the C101.

Is there actually a difference between pre-facelift and facelift cars, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Was your car originally a 4 cylinder? Have you swapped the coding plug in the speedo to a 6 pot?

That doesn't make the difference between working and not working.

No it was a six (320i).

Dan suggested in this thread (http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... ev+counter) that there was a difference btween pre/facelift cars... Which makes me think it might be the reason it isn't working.

There's a white connector plug under your steering column with a 3 pin connector, you run a wire from the ecu connector block to one of these terminals, but I'm buggered if I know which one, hang on, I'll go & have a look.....

Dark wire (blue or black) is tach
Light wire (yellow or white) is fuel consumption

You need to pull the wires through the loom and out by the ECU, the 3 pin connector plug hangs down in the ECU location

Yellow wire to plug goes to black/white wire from ECU socket
Black wire to plug goes to black wire from ECU plug
