This is the sort of thing bss325i would usually pick up for buttons, fix properly and punt on :D

Although slightly worrying that there is no service recorded in the last 40k

With the head gasket gone between 5 and 6 there is a high chance that the head will be damaged between the combustion chambers where the head gasket has gone. I have seen it before on S54's and in one case the head erosion was so bad it was scrap. There is tolerance to skim the head, ie you cant skim an s54 head.

New heads are crazy money!

That car would need to start with a 3 not a 6!

EDIT: There is no tolerance to skim the head.

I wouldn't touch it with yours bud.
for the price he is asking and what he knows from his 'specialist' and all specialists are special in more ways than one I could be tempted to mess the saucy boy about.
but a Peter Hamilton trillogy looks a better option.

We had an M3 in a few weeks back. Blown headgasket between 3 & 4. Cracked the head and it was going to be £2500 for a new one (S54). The customer took the head away, got it welded snd skimmed. We advised against it but its the route he wanted to take. All back together and it ran ok.... After a bill of near 5k!!!!!!
