I'm guessing that the L is a Consul as opposed to a Granada? Unlike the Cortina below it. :)

Being a R reg, that Granada estate is too new to be a consol.

Coincidently, on Sunday I passed a x reg beige cortina estate which was slammed and had 13" superlights. Was a bit of a rat look going on.

Gonna stand my ground on this one  The top one is in my humble opinion, without doubt a Consul, albeit one of the last. I'm almost certain that the L and GT badges were only given to the Consul. The Granada never had the L badge. :)

Too new to be a Consul indeed - with those wheeltrims it'll be a base Granada, not even an L. 90 bhp economy Pinto with a single choke 'sonic idle' Motorcraft!

Could well have been - the Estates never had the steel sports road wheels. :D
Could be either 100 bhp 2.0 or the pure gristle of a 138 bhp 3.0 V6.

You are wrong I'm afraid :D .

From about 1976 "P" onwards they ALL became granadas. It's when they facelifted them to the newer "open" dash from the old "6 port" dash. The consul name was dropped at that point.

That is a bog basic Granada L Estate as Barry says, which came with the earlier prefacelift wheel trims. The Estates by this time were all L's or GL's although they did do a very basic Granada "SALOON" which was below the L and still wore the wheeltrims of which the Estate L shared.

The other obvious sign on that car is that it's got the 2.0 lettering on the front wing (as per all the facelift cars) and not the red / chrome shield with 2000 (or 2500 as many consuls had).

Scan just taken just this minute from my personal copy of the MAY 1977 Ford Brochure.

The GRANADA L and GL estate cars.

Sorry. Again I need to correct

The top photo Adit has posted is still a mk1.

Apart from the colour (copper bronze IIRC a classic '74-75 colour), Note the rubbing strips are high up the door and are the full length of the car. Also the bumper is full chrome with just a thin rubber strip.
The Mk2's had the rubbing strips much lower and stopped at the wheel arches (similar to an e30). Also the rear bumpers were mostly black to the lower half with just a chrome cap to the upper half. On the later facelift Mk2's the bumpers were full wrap aroound to the arches.

I'd have another Mk1 but it would need to be a late facelift in a good colour. If the right Coupe came up I'd sell the e30 for it!! 8O

They used to drive so well. We had Mk1 granandas in the family from about '77 to '82 with the old man having a 3.0 XL manual and a 3.0 auto GL. I then bought a 77 Ghia in '83. Photos below.

They are a bit of a specialist subjuct for me I'm afraid.

I think they're awesome, my grandad had one when I was a toddler but still remember it, I love old stuff like this, I would also be sorely tempted by a coupe if I found one! Or a late 60's Opel rekord coupe :D
