SE vs Sport skirts

Can't really find any decent photos to compare, what's the difference?

Well I searched, but they look the same from the photos I could find. I was thinking about a set of SE skirts to make the sides a bit lower to match the iS splitter...

SE skirts match the IS front spoiler better than tech 2 sides and IS front.

Tech 2 skirts HAVE TO HAVE the door pods fitted as well.

Well it's between SE Skirts or re-painting the sills as they're currently covered in the waxy black paint and look rubbish!

Waxy black paint?! Sounds an odd thing to have painted on there. Should just be black stone chip. If you have good solid rust free sills i wouldn't be drilling them to fit skirts.

It's the stock bubbly black paint that's on the rear bumper as well

IMO that only works on something like yours Lee, for me the contrast with the black sills works on most non kitted cars.

I had skirts ready to go for my old iS in the right colour but decided against it, especially after someone did me a photoshop, looked too fat somehow. But then fitting SE skirts to my touring has worked, but i think mainly because it's black on black, only bothered as they'd gone missing under previous ownership so the holes were already there.

I just think that the 'sucky in' look of the sides and rear bumper looks stupid when the front goes down and out slightly.

Definitely colour coding if not skirts.

So the sills have to be drilled and the skirts bolted on? Is there no way to clip/glue them in place?

Sterling silver car, Granite Silver lower Tech 2 kit (boot spoiler in sterling silver) this is a factory combiniation and grows on you....(well grew on me!)

the black stone chip is factory on sills and valance

i had a black is,so it didnt look different like it does on red/white is`s , also like kedge i had some se skirts in black ,but never fitted them, although when holding them on the car they looked ok, although always niggled at me they were not oem, although on the red one above ...can look ok/good, i wouldnt fit sport skirts on a car without the rest of the kit

The skirts are held in place by several push fit plastic fittings along the top edge of the skirt and plastic "clamps" which fit to the lower edge of the sill.

To do it properly you have to drill the sills to fit the push-fitting mounts.

Agree with Kedge - if your sills are solid really the last thing you want to be doing is drilling holes in them but if you must make sure that you plaster the holes with decent paint and then waxoyl before you even think about putting the fixings in place.

If you are fitting skirts it makes sense to plaster the whole sill in waxoyl before fitting.

You can tiger-seal the upper edge of the skirt in place to avoid drilling the sill but this is a proper bodge

Wouldnt do it myself but it is a "solution"

I used to have colour coded sills and rear valance , as per my sig, but it bugged me as it's just not how it's meant to be. May work well on another colour but mine was looking too White, a bit overkill. They are now black, I'll chuck some pics up when I get home from work.

The clips for the SE side skirts are all available from BMW themselves, I've just recently bought my ones you'll need three main components for the fitting of the SE skirts.

Green Plastic Grommets £0.14 Each
Lower Clips 8 on each side £0.65 Each
Upper Clips (push-fit type) £0.42 Each

You'll defiantly have to drill holes for the green grommets and the clips slide into the channel at the top of the skirt, and then pushed into the sill

The bottom one will have to be simply clipped to the lower part of the sill. Very easy.

Prices vary from time to time and if they are not in stock they usually deliver them within 48 hours to the Dealer for you to collect.

I am waiting for my ones to come and will be posting a thread on a Step-to-Step very soon, Hope this helps!

It's arguably better than drilling a line of holes that wont get proper corrosion protection.

Done right with the holes protected fine, but otherwise its asking for a shed load of trouble when those holes become the perfect places for terminal and structural rot to start.
