An S14, if after all these years my memory still works. He achieved an amazing amount of offs, more of those than wins.
Did he win the title in 88 or 89?

Nice to see you posting again

And yes is has an s14 with a turbo and Xtrac 4x4 tranny

Some say this had 80's M10 based (M12?) 1.5 litre formula one engine.

What ever it had, it was over 650bhp

are the m10 and s14 both quite closely related? it could well have been a freakish amalgamation of 80s f1 tech and s14.

Thanks for the feedback on the engine

HairyScreech - I have read about people putting the S14 head on a M10 block. Here is one http://www.m2bmw.com/virtala.htm

I used to love watching Rally Cross- seen this one before- epic. IIRC there is another of this M3 racing against a home-brewed Astra which is even more epic as the Astra just manages to keep ahead!!

If I've understood what I was told today the S14 head was a 16V evolution of the M10 head.

Have a look at this head from the M12
http://www.raceenginedesign.biz/BmwM12.htm
I would bet more than one person has said 'thats a weird V8 head'

I've got a 731 head complete going begging but it will take a hammer and cold chisel to remove the old oil and I'm down next to Brands Hatch so I doubt it's no help though if you can sort something it's yours FOC as it'll save the dog jumping over it when any cat tries its luck through the garden.

The 6R4 looks great on track too, very composed handling. Glad I always followed the M3 back in those days, might have ended up as a metro fanboi  I did have a collander spec MG as my first car... then it broke down (repeat over and over).

I think this is the motoquip british gp . It still is some of the best racing ever . The astra was I think driven by john welsh who also drove a Mk 3 escort xtrac in which he won one year . The escort was so battered in the final that he had to get out through the rear hatch as neither of the doors could be opened . My favorite was the beetle with porsche power and 4 wheel drive . I think I still have it on vhs somewhere .

Just had to watch that again! The 6R4 was set up far better and was more planted. The M3 won on outright power and driver's balls. I wonder how often that M3 needed a complete rebuild running that highly tuned
