@ Moody/azza
You keep going on about seeing and hearing the engine.
Whats that going to prove now?
Nowt thats what.
I personally think the lump has been stored uncorrectly for the 8 months or turned in that time and possibily so one thought it would be a good idea to start it before oil was added.
Now you are chancing your mit to get your money back.
Either way Rob would be mad to refund a penny.

Get a f* grip,we are talking about 20+yr.old sub £10k cars here,NOT the crown jewels!
any engine sold will be drained of oil.. yours was i bet the tit fired it up/ran it without re-filling it with oil.. then sussed his error once it started knocking like fook
seen this happen before.. there is no way you can cover your own skin with this sort of thing unless you fit the lump yourself.. even then its up to the buyer to treat it well, and he 'says' he only just fitted it!?! pift..

Fack me Rob I take my hat of to you fella, serving a rapping/knocking M20 donk for 200 sheets is sheer quality
so the buyer bought a complete engine for £200 AND expects a 6 month warranty?
on a more serious note the sale was months ago, who's to say it hasn't been thrashed over the last 6 months ?
can he provide a reciept from the garage that fitted it showing it was installed by a qualified Mechanic ? what quality oil has been used ect ? my bet is none of the above
I would not refund anything at all for this engine it was damn cheap enough at £200, the head alone is worth that ...

I am pretty new to the E30-Zone but I agree that the buyer has no come back at all!
At the same time I know that a forum should be like a community - we all help eachother out and not rip one another off. I can tell that you sold the engine in good faith and the chap should have installed it straight away and come back with any issues. I rekon he is fobbing you off with the old engine he must be taking out as being yours!
Anyway its his loss if he is telling the truth....but I don't believe he is genuine.

OH I see NOW! Sorry, I misunderstood. When you said, 'I can't say' you meant to say, 'I can't write'. I DO apologise for any offence caused.MOODY wrote:mattycoops43 wrote:WTF? Goodwill? Justice?
Try words like 'Eight' and 'Months'.
Sympathy if there is something gone wrong, but engines don't like to be sat for months on end without being run, especially with hoses etc undone, letting air and water moisture in to rust things on the inside, and electrical connections to corrode.
Sorry, but a s/h engine is not something you would ever expect over 6 months warranty on, 30 days possibly from a professional car breakers, but not from a bloke somewhere stripping to sell. Time to move on I think and not turn this into some big aggro argument thread. read the previous comments, NO ONE thinks you have a case.
Oh, ps Mr Moody- " but im not a mechanic and cant really say, " So why are you talking then? Sorry, but it gets my goat people commenting as if they have all the answers, when they have no clue!
mr asswipe i aint a mechanic just a fellow zoner, the car is at a garage right now go and see it yourelf,
hes come on here asking for it be sorted if not he will sort it, its not bwt money its trust,
i jus hope it gets sorted,
o and why isnt the ebay add on here too, as its states what a wonderful engine it is????????
ps, what is a 'BWT' and what does juice hope have to do with anything?
Best regards 'Mr Asswipe'

moody seems to have a unit and some form of auto business, now im not exactly Holmes but i am thinking there is a link here.
did he say where the engine was fitted?
in both threads im seeing a lot of bad ju ju, perhaps an unreliable seller tag may be needed on both accounts. (although AZZA seems to be a 1 post wonder)
as far as im concerned there is no way to know what has been done to this engine in the last 8 months, legally i think you are in the clear.
as for getting an independent professional to inspect the engine i would think this could be in your favor, if its worn out then all it will show is wear, and there is no way it can be proved either way when this wear occurred in the engines life.
if, as i suspect here, there has been corrosion of a spun/seized shell from neglect then that will show and if/when thats the cause it will be clear when that occurred.

4 pages is enough I think - time to wrap this up.
As per my 1st post if the general opinion had been that I owed the buyer something I would have paid him.
As the views of all but 2 ( Azza and his mate ) posted on this 4 page thread concur with my gut feeling that I don't owe Azza anything we can leave it there.
I won't be spending my time and money coming to Stoke to see something which proves absolutely nothing - at the end of the day the engine was sold as all good, in good faith and I had described all the new bits fitted, work done to it and even put a video on the for sale ad to be as fair and transparent as possible with the sale.
If Azza wants to take it further he needs to provide me with his contact details and I will take formal legal advice as I believe I've done nothing wrong.
I don't want to go down the legal route but I will defend myself in this way if necessary as I believe that the engine was 100% sound when it was sold however it was sold as seen and advertised without any sort of warranty given or implied, and 8 months down the line when it could have been incorrectly transported, stored, installed, recommissioned etc any issues occurring now just arent my fault.
I still have the youtube video on my phone which is obviously date-stamped so can confirm the date the footage of the engine running perfectly was taken.
Azza assuming you havent found fault with the 325i gearbox that was part of the £200 deal, that engine at best owes you £150. IF somehow the bottom end is now knackered you will get that back by selling the head and weighing the block in - and you can use the new waterpump and cambelt tensioner on the next engine you buy.
Thanks to all zoners for their input
