There is absolutlely nothing worth having on an E36 Compact, so forget breaking it. It'll make 180 on the scales - I'd bite the bullet and stick a clutch in. look on Ebay and you might find a cheap clutch - I bought a grand new 3 piece LuK for mine for £20.
Dare I say it, but a used centre plate with some meat on the bones would get you out of the sh*t.

Sorted - £47 and day of swearing doing it on the drive. Plenty of room to work although the top starter bolt is a bitch.

Waste of time. The panels are worth nothing, ditto lights (even the Sport rears with clear indicators etc. Thing is, the yards are full of them, and so is Ebay. A black leather trim is worth 150 sheets though.sweep wrote:So compacts are hard work?

again, I paid £440 pac
I have no option really after some thought,
I recive my 4th years no claims in feb and Direct line wont insure any more cars as ive apparantly had too many and the underwriters have refused any more.
If i cancel my insurance and take a new policy out i will need to wait till this time next year to get the touring insured with b25 running gear.
New clutch i guess
if any zoner wants some work i would rather pay a zoner labour.

ive done 4000 miles in it and its been fine apart from this.
i'am really un lucky with cars, but then i dont drive like a fanny

Why are they under dogs? is it due to the e36/ford mondeo build quality?

Please explain how i'am full of shit ?
hardly a mastermind job? well considering i dont have an axel stands any more prehaps it might be............ if i get stuck what am i suppose to do. i need it back on the road asap. ive never changed a clutch before, imo it would be easier with the engine out with the tools ive got at the moment i would struggle.
ive got so much going on at the min with my home life and work and considering the shifts i'am working i have very little daylight to get it done.
Thanks for your positive comment.

Get the Ebay clutch, and either ring a local garage or get a mobile mechanic out to do it. Sounds like it's easier for you to earn the money to pay someone else.Alex wrote:Please explain how i'am full of shit ?

have you tried turning the engine over by hand and trying the starter again, if its a bit of clutch stuck in there then that may free it.
also does the m42 still have the bit that fits under the sump like on the e30 or some kind of inspection cover? if so its worth popping that off and having a look in the housing to see if there is bits of clutch all over the place.

Why are people saying to weigh it in :s? Gheez if it's only a clutch it's not too much of a problem. I know it's a headache but what can you do?

Excuse me for saying this but there always appears to be a problem.Alex wrote:Cheers sweep but getting there is a problem
Either:
Tow it to Sweeps or pay someone to trailer it there.
Pay someone to fir a supplied clutch
Do it yourself on the drive
Scrap it and buy something else
It appears you're willing to spend longer finding ways NOT to do the job than it'd take to actually do it!
The gearbox could have been at least out by now.
