I'm desperately in need of some new wheels but as I'm sure you are all aware, getting the right ones takes time.

In the meantime, I really don't want to drive the M3 with the wheels that are on it - they'll really not me.

So, anyone got any 16's or 17's going cheap? Haven't got to be great, just reasonable. I've got cash waiting!

What do you reckon? Makes it look a bit dirty and rough. Ah, man I don't know. Anthracite or whatever its called? They're sort of dark grey aren't they? They might look better.

Thanks for that though.

Paper bag...? Is that for the wheels or the Rice part on the boot?

Looks mint though... but I don't think the wheels are too bad... just need a bit of dish on the rears...

Yeah, you're probably right. I'll prolly leave 'em be for now. Might pick up a cheap set of Alpina reps to tide me over though. We'll see.

Staying up to watch "Joey" on channel 5 so I'm nice and tired!! Spending the evening on 'the zone' doesn't help matters!!

As said above and I mentioned in the other thread - a dark grey would look really nice with those wheels.

Lordschleife,

When you got a minute you couldn't darken them up a bit for me could you please? Not black, that looks too mean, dark grey/graphite sort of colour. Thanks, Adam.

errrr... not sure on about fitting it to the M3 but do you reckon it'll fit my Rover 100? It's a 5 door if that helps. GSI, naturally.

Joking aside it looks like a lovely motor you have there. Wing/aerofoil excluded!!

Thats right, stored for just shy of 5 years at a cost of Ԛ£26 per week! About 200 miles over that period!!

Wow, quite an interesting visit to the storage company. About 300 cars in total, including a silver Carrera GT, a yellow Enzo, numerous lambo's and other ferrari's, including one (which I can't remember the name) that is the only one in the world. There were only ever three, but just one left. The owner turned down an offer of Ԛ£2.5 million for it last year- its insured for Ԛ£3 million!!!

Also theres an Anniversary Edition Lambo Countach which has been in storage for past 15 years at the same cost as above! Big bucks, even bigger motors!!!

Anyway, I've just got back from picking her up. Wicked mate. LHD was a bit wierd, but not as wierd as the dog leg box!! No pics yet I'm afraid, its already in the body shop having the spoiler seen to. Pick it up saturday so pictures will be available then. Also, tints aren't as bad as I thought, its only the rear and rear 1/4's that are limo black, the fronts are dark smoke.

Interior is well clean. He had red piping put on the front seats, and the rears look like they haven't even been sat in.

I thought the 6" exhaust would be loud but its not. Sounds really good. Its one of those custom made PowerFlow jobbies. Got one on my Audi S3 too!! Oh, the 6" is oval by the way!!!!!

My only concern is that the engine is making a kind of ticking noise which increases as the revs increase. Is this a timing issue?

Oh, also, the clocks are still in KPH!!

Do they all have heated seats?

Sounds like your happy!!

Tapping...is it loud and annoying, or barely hear it? Most M3's I've heard are like it...theyre not quite as refined..bit more of a racer! It can be helped by putting some blu-tack over the hole in the steering colum (under the steering wheel centre).

My clocks are in KPH too, I've just learned the speed limits, you'll soon get used to it.

Heated seats was an option from new.

Hard to say really. Its not so loud that its annoying, but loud enough to be a little concerned. First E30 M3 I've been in so nothing to compare it to but I don't think its right. When I get it back from the body shop I'll run it to my local BM specialists and get them to have a listen.

If they say its ok I'll get the blu-tack out!

Well done mate,

ticking noise can be lots of things. Any old BM specialist wont do, youll need someone who knows M3's. Otherwise you could be spending money where its not required.

Might just be a case of changing the oil as it been sitting around for so long.

Did you find it quick at all?

As in quick to drive? Not really, far slower than the S3 (remapped). I'm hoping its down to the ticking noise!

Ticking noise could be one of three things...

1) Tappets. My 320iS was noisy. At least I thought it was noisy, so had the tappets shimmed. This made it a little better, but was still noisy. Was told it was a characteristic of the S14 unit to be a little 'tappety'

2) Chain rattle. Try putting in a new tensioner (E36 / E46 M3 item)

3) Leaky exhaust manifold.

Hope this helps...

Giles.

Ticking noise is usual but I can only really hear mine at idle and more so when it's cold. I've had the tensioner upgrade though and that certainly made it a little quieter.
