I knew you'd like that. It dropped no points for that pete cos they were shit when they were new!!!
Foreskin was standard fit on the 12/50 along with front discs to cope with the additional power it produced over the 1200!

Trevor, looking at that pic again (Ican't help myself!) there appears to be an excess of positive camber at the front, did you have trouble with your trunnions ? :)

Air con is one option that i always wanted for the sport and having a black car with black leather isn't funny in the summer! The last peice of the air con jigsaw puzzle turned up today, one of the pipes. Ah the pipes! I have sold three Air con kits now and them along with every other A/C kit has had pipes that have lost the passivated gold/brass colour and would look out of place in a mint OEM engine bay, not something i want for my sport so i decided to replace all four pipes with new ones while i could still get them as more and more things seem to be going NLA. To stop the pipes loosing the finnish like all the others i will give the metal parts a coat of matt laquer to prevent them from oxidising.

Some of you will be familier with this, its the A/C conversion kit to convert from R12 to R134a gas and it comprises of a new dryer/reciever, 2 valves, O-rings and a new pressure sensor.

Image

New heater box gaskets as the 20 year old ones just crumble do dust!

Image

New condensor and a VERY lucky find, a brand new old stock genuine BMW compressor which i won on ebay for a steal!

Image

Image

Another bonus was the car i broke for for the A/C also had regulated temperature control, ie climate control which is a rare option on E30's! The system functions much like any other climate sytsem in that it has a cabin temp sensor (the black round thing next to the temp knob) and instead of a cable operating a flap, it has an electronic switch and module which operates the electric heater valve, you can see the module in the pics below. I also ordered a a new foil as the original had faded.

Cant wait to chuck it all in!
I'm sorry for bringing that up from the past, but i'm in the same film. I'm putting an air conditioning in my e30 and I can't find a dryer to fit in my car. The old dryer is with 2 pressure sensors and in the wiring there are 4 whires coming to the dryer. The dryers I find in the shops are with only one pressure switch. Can you give some information pls!

Vasko, all modern driers use one pressure switch, and yes the old one uses two. When you replace the drier it will come with a new pressure switch, with a plug to match one of the ones your car wires have.

The other plug (from the other pressure switch, which you no longer have) can be cut off, and the wires going into it need to be soldered together to short it (there are actually 4 wires in there, although it looks like two until you cut the socket off).

The reason for this change is that the modern R134a system works differently to the old R12.

So, you need to buy the R134a conversion kit from BMW, part number 82319067394.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the advice. My system works with the old R12. I have filled in my system with R12, in Bulgaria there is no problem for that, but I'm not sure if it will be working properly with the new dryer? Thank you in advance.

I am not certain, as I have not run R12 with an R134a drier with one pressure switch connection. If you have problems, you can still buy driers with two connections:

Just so you all know, a drier that has been left unsealed will be scrap as moisture in the air will have ruined it. As little as 24h can do it.

Taxed the old buss couple of weeks ago and have used it a couple of times funnily enough for job interviews and it's been good to be back in it again.

Got a few things lined up to do but that can wait till winter, want to get some use this summer!

Barry, just reading your thread (again).

Great work.

Some of the pictures on page 2 seem to have gone missing.

Any chance of finding them and putting them back up?

Thanks
