Hi guys,

A mate of mine has an 08 ford focus 1.6

He had 2 new front tyres put on a while back. Now one of them is worn out and the other still has around 4mm on.
They are both evenly worn - so I do not think there is anything wrong with the wheel alignment.

Any ideas as to why it would wear one corner of the car faster than the other?
It would make sense if it was the nearside because you'd expect that to wear faster from hooning round roundabouts at pace but it is the offside tyre. So I'm stumped!

Cheers

Probably is a wheel alignment issue. Have you had it checked?

Dezzy is a good one to ask as he works at a tyre place.

Your mate will turn into a roundabout on the o/s,go round the thing on the n/s,then exit on the o/s...

I drove the same 44t truck for several years,o/s front needed to be swapped with n/s front to even up wear....

And decent truck tyres are £250+ each... :D

So you're saying it's normal if it's being driven enthusiastically?

Yes,as long as aliginment is correct...

Consider a car being used on track days,a l/h circuit will give different wear patterns to a r/h circuit...

Will get it checked out after new tyres but as I said the wear on each tyre is more or less equal.

I can see that on a track as it's repetitive use, I thought on the road it'd be more or less equal - obviously not!

cheers for the replies!

Near side front tyre? Nearest to the box and will always spin-up easier/earlier then the other.

As mentioned above, swap them over.

No it was the offside, not sure which side the gearbox is on tbh, will have a look.
Will be putting new tyres on next week which will be rotated regularly!

I have this problem on my work's van, it's because my drive is steep and I live on a hill.where my drive meets the road it has odd camber as such, so that the van twists a bit and one wheel doesn't have as much contact with the ground as the other, and because it's an open diff it causes the one tyre more "stress" as such and causes it to wear twice as fast as the other. Maybe it could be something like this without you realising?
