Ews help
Not E30 related but someone might be able to help,
I am putting my S50B30 out of my E30 into the M coupe shell i've just bought.
The coupe has a EWS ecu fitted but no engine loom, my S50 doesn't have EWS can i just get a E36 M3 loom without EWS and not use it or if i get a loom for a M3 with EWS would i be able to use my engine ECU along with the coupes EWS unit?

Dont get what you mean exactly
But, the ECU, EWS module and key chip all have to match, you cant mix them.
If your engine has no EWS then it will go straight in without problems, all you need to do is join the two starter wires in the EWS plug that comes with your car body loom.
As for engine loom you must use the S50B30 loom, you cant use B32

Sorry wasn't too clear on that.
I need a S50B30 loom (will be easier than changing the one in the e30 to fit) and was was just waying up if i'd need a ews one with the coupe being fitted with ews (everything is there up till where the engine loom should plug in),
But if its just a matter of linking the starter wire the and using my ecu and a standard b30 none ews loom then that seems like the way to go.
Thanks

Bit of help needed, I’ve eventually got round to starting the coupe but it just turns over but won’t fire.
I have fitted a S50B30 engine, loom and ECU out of a none EWS car , but the coupe still has all the EWS system fitted (it’s a 1999 car)
Is there anything I’d need to do to make it start?

Should just fire up by the sounds of it as your ECU isn't looking for an EWS signal.

thanks
wondering if it could be a fuel pump relay issue, think the B30 has it in the harness and the Z3 has one in the dash somewhere

Although the S50B30 doesn't have EWS2, it has what could be called EWS1. I believe it's similar to the e30 OBC code function. If you feed 12v to a particular ECU pin, it immobilises the engine. When you fit an S50B30 into an EWS2 car, the EWS system sends enough voltage to the ECU to kill the engine. If you cut the wire on pin 7 of the X20 connector, it should start.Peet wrote:Bit of help needed, I’ve eventually got round to starting the coupe but it just turns over but won’t fire.

Thanks, checked and the bloke i got the loom off has already done that for us.
Done a bit more messing and it looks like the b30 and b32 have different pin locations in the x20 connector.

Is the fuel pump priming on ignition then running when cranking?

No the pumps not running, we can't get power to switch the pump relay, the 12v supply is there but we only get 3v on the switch side.DanThe wrote:Is the fuel pump priming on ignition then running when cranking?

The fuel pump should prime regardless of EWS working or not, it has to be a wiring or ECU problem, as long as the ECU has Permanent Live, Ground and Ignition it should send the signal to the fuel pump relay to prime, have you checked for spark or injector pulse?

will have a look into them
done a bit more messing and it looks like the oil level light on the dash comes on when i switch the ignition on and stays on for a bit then goes off and comes back on when i turn it over. Makes me think some of the wires on the coupe are in different locations to the M3. (6 or 7 wires are in differnt locations going off the colours)
will try and get the pin outs for both and compare them

Has anyone had experience with fitting a S50B30 into a S50B32 car?
When I turn the ignition on now the engine will turn over and the idle control valve is making a noise (like it used to in my old car), its just not firing and the fuel pump isn’t switching on.

I’ve moved the following pins locations on the engine side of the connector to bring them in line with the coupe side
Pin 9 has moved to pin 1
Pin 14 has moved to pin 9
This leaves pin 14 empty, does anyone know what I need to connect to this (I am hoping this is the issue that’s causing the fuel pump not to work)
The only other pin I am a bit unsure about is pin 15
Any help is appreciated as I am slowly losing enthusiasm with the car now after weeks of messing with wires and not getting anywhere.

The fuel pump relay didn't have a wire to switch it, so just wired it into a switch live (fused) and the relay is worked, it started first time, simple things are always the most annoying to find
