Reading through this post, I may have missed it, but has any one suggested a good starting place to be to ask her what she want's for the car?
If it's a few hundred, then you can pay it and leave her chuffed, rather than trying to take the old dear (not in the way Kos has suggested, either!).

if its really well looked after an 1 owner 52k with no rot then i would say around £2500 is probably about right.
good e30 prices are on the rise as put simply the cost of looking after one is on the rise.
parts are more expensive than they were a few years back and the cheep ones are all rotten turds.
put simply if e30 are considered too expensive at current prices then put simply the maintenance thats required in order to keep a good one nice will be to expensive and you will be left with a rotten turd.
£2000 is not bad whak for what is now a classic car with a following.
£5000 is nothing really for a well looked after premium version of the above with a bigger image.
although £15k+ for an m3 is a little bit ott and in my opinion un-sustainable in the long term.
these things will probably go the way of mk2 escorts and rs turbos.

I bought a white one in scotland with 58k on the clock, dealer offered the old guy £700 against a new vw so it ended up on fleabay with the saleman getting a cut.
I paid £1950 with 10 months tax and MOT.
Car still needed TLC as kept outside all its life. Dont get carried away ,get under it and check it out, see whats been fitted in the service history .
Ultimately Price will depend on condition, but chance it ask her how much.

If it as good as it might be then it is quite a find. However, i can understand you want to get it as cheap as possible but i do not think it is quite right to rip off a OAP.
If you were selling it would you take £500?

That's exactly what the Honda dealer will be planning on doing!! Simply offering the same or a tad more than their trade is fine in my books.pony wrote:i do not think it is quite right to rip off a OAP.
IF it as good as it could be then £3500 would be a decent asking price when it's advertised proparly by someone who know's it's worth. I sold my 120k mile iS over 3years ago for £2500 and the buyer sold it on earlier this year with 150+K on it for around £4000. A good iS is worth money despite what the 4 pot haters would like everyone to believe.

Unless you find yourself in a situation like the OP on this thread you will not find one for that price without major issues! Even then it'll most likely be rotten under the kit.

yes but if your a trader and you offer trade price that is different to if you buy privately and you pay private price?Kedge wrote:That's exactly what the Honda dealer will be planning on doing!! i mean honestly if you had that car if some one offered you £500 you would tell them to f*** off from private buyer
Not if to you the car is just an old car! Why do you think so many mint cars got weighed in for the scrappage scheme that were worth way more than the 2k or 2.5k that offered. I heard of one owners iS's, motorsport cabs etce etc going on that.pony wrote:yes but if your a trader and you offer trade price that is different to if you buy privately and you pay private price?Kedge wrote:That's exactly what the Honda dealer will be planning on doing!! Has this deal not been done yet?! For fooks sake, if it had been worth buying it should have been bought by now. 3 pages in and nothing interesting to read....
