OK guys, I had a scout around at old posts last night, but can't get much in the way of definitive answers to my question, even though it's all been said before.
My BBS 15's are away just now being refurbed and I'm putting some new rubber on them when they get back. I've ahd a look around online at some tyre places, but the difference in price is amazing!!

I had some Pirelli P6000 on my old 318iS running BBS 14's and thought they were good. (Ԛ£59.95 for the 15's)
Everyone seems to be saying the Goodyear Eagle F1's are the best you can buy. I want a performance tyre, but don't drive like a madman very often...(Ԛ£77.10)
Should I consider the Falken ZE 512's for under Ԛ£50? - I had falken's on an XR2 about 9 years ago and they were shite after running Yokohamas on the same car.
I'm not considering Yoko's because you need all the help you can get in the wet in an E30!!

So what do you guys run? Which do you reccommend on my pitiful nurse's salary? - can I get any of these tyres cheaper?
thanks

I've got the ZE512's on the M3, but being the sizes they are 215 40 17 and 245 35 17, they are rather expensive, and went for these tyres as more of a budget alternative, but have been quite suprised by them, they are pretty good in the wet, but the best tyre I've ever used by far was goodyear F1's.

Forgot to add I assume you're getting the tyres from here??

The ZE 512's are Ԛ£46 each, and they offer a really good service!

iv heard from people that f1s have a ludicroulsy soft compound (hence the grip) and wear quickly

Michelin Pilots are meant to be good alrounders

avoid japanese tyres if you want wet handling thats all il say lol

bought tyres for both mine and the wifes car from camskill and can thoroughly recommend them but make sure you buy at least 2 at a time as the postage is free for 2 tyres and more

I hope not as i'm having some F1's put on the back of mine this week end :?

Michelin are well expensive, i'm paying 72 per tyre fitted for the F1's and they wanted 85 Michelin Exaltos

There's 2 types of F1 at the moment, the new ones are soft, but they grip well, that's the important factor especially with high powered RWD cars.
F1's wet weather handling is superb.
Bridgestones are pretty shit and are noisy.

Consider Toyos! Good and cheap, but a bit soft!

Running F1's on the 635 & can recommend them. Wet weather grip is very good.

I believe mine are the MkIII's - GSD3 ???

Wear rate seems good but the more grip you have the more you want to exploit so the faster the tyre wears out.

If Goodyear are moving the F1 to a softer compound then I would expect them to bring out a harder wearing compound tyre to fill the gap.

I've heard Hanooks are ok but I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to tyre brands winkeye

Got Dunlop SP sport 9000 on my BBS a while ago. Very pleased with them and great traction in the wet.

Get the Falkens! I went for 205/50s, for Ԛ£41 each from camskill. They'll be with you the next day, they're great & they're a bargain!

Cheers guys, I was swaying towards the P6000 TBH seeing as I'd had them before, I'm just worried the Falkens would be cack and I'd be really stretching myself for the F1's...
Oh well....

P6000s arent hot when compared to some performance tyres! Theyre quite hard wearing tho!

Should spent as much as u can afford on some decent tyres imo

Ok, so it's between the Toyo's and the falkens I reckon. The difference between the Falkens (Ԛ£184) and the F1's (Ԛ£308.20) is too big to ignore.

Jhonno, are your Toyo's good in the wet? I mean, how hard do you have to provoke it to slide? I've got mix and match on my car at the moment and when it's raining you have to be bloody careful to avoid losing it round a corner.

The Toyo T1-Rs i had were pretty progressive in the wet and really stuck, unlike the all or nothing slippery Nangkangs i had :?

Unless i was doing it on purpose the Toyos took 192+bhp to the rear wheels with little drama!

mine are good in the wet..

have to try to provoke it, altho it can be done

i tend to drive pretty gingerly in the wet after spinning the car @70 on the m25 bout 6 months ago, but i was running a totally different setup then inc mismatched tyres

They are a v good tyre imo

Might try Dunlop SP 9000 next time tho, we'll see how finances are. Not cause of anything wrong with these but i like to try different tyres (yes i am weird  )

no

and yes its very true with tyres to a certain extent, altho some are better than others at the same price if you see what i mean

which is why im gonna try the Dunlops, as they are a premium high performance tyre

you can get as much grip as a more expensive tyre but its often at the expense of tyre wear

Certainly a solution to my current dilemma!!!
What's the difference between a 50 profile and a 55 profile (in terms of effects) ie will it affect my speedo/comfort etc?
Shouldn't I stick to a 55 just because that's what the car 'should have?'

Thanks so far guys - you've all been really helpful!

I've got Avon Unidirects in the back and Goodyear NT2s on the front (I know they stopped making them) and the group handles great.

Re the Dunlop sp 9000' s - I can floor it (325i) pulling away from lights in the wet and I get no wheel spin even on the painted white lines which are like glass over here. Can't fault them at all for wet handling.

well, I made a descision based on what I can realistically afford. A set of F1's were going to work out too much. (the GDS2's have been discontinued and he GDS 3's aren't available in 205/50x15) the Toyo Proxes T1-s has been superceded by the T1-r's (like Jhonno) and these are the ones I'm going for based on your advice and the affordability. Camskill (mike - a really friendly nice fellow) knocked off another tenner from the internet price because I was having 4, so Ԛ£230 the set. He's gonna post them Monday for Tuesday delivery and I'm taking it all up to my mates part worn tyre shop to put it all together. I'm putting a part worn on the spare to help keep the costs down (although I had the wheel refurbed too.)
So keep a look out in the pics section, I'm about to get the bucket out.......
