Quick question my vanos tends to chatter when lifting off at around 3000rpm I believe the earlier m50's has this fault because of play between the vanos an cam so it chatters slightly now I just wondered if it takes any performance away by having play there?

It doesnt affect performance at all. The vanos sprocket was updated in 1995, so any engines produced before then should have the later parts fitted to get rid of the noise. There is a thread above this one telling you everything you need to know :wink:
