Chaps, I've been offered a lovely 540 Touring for a daft price.
Realistically, what MPG can be expected? Around town/B roads/motorway etc.
Ta.

Dan
IIRC John's average down to Le Mans and back was around 30mpg,mostly autoroute with normal race weekend traffic through Le Mans
The B10 3.2 managed 34.8mpg.
Obviously more rural action would see this decrease to the teens or low 20's
The B10 has comparable performance and manages around 28-30mpg with a general mix of A/B roads and city traffic

town use down to below 15 but out on the open you could see 30+, depends on how its driven I suppose.
The B10 can only be comparable in performance after all its a V8 v's a straight 6. Its appeal was the mix of performance and the ability to be quite economical.

Thanks guys, in line with what I had in mind. Probably more economical with a manual box though.

I know someone with a E38 that's the 740 (with the 4.4). He gets around 30mpg on the motorway and about 20-30mpg on a show weekend (£100 tank did just under 400 miles).

I know mines in a e30 but when I drove to middlesbrough I averaged 26mpg, (with a stupid diff 4.1 ratio or something like that)
Round town I get around 5-10mpg. And daily driving to and from work (24miles) I get around 17-18mpg
I did however borrow a 540 manual for a weekend a for a weekend and was surprised I got 30's on the motorway and 15-20 round town.

hi Dan, i have an e39 540 (4.4l auto) and normal varied driving it returns 23mpg. Constant 70mph it will average 28mpg. Boot it about and it will drop to 20mpg.
My long term average is about 23mpg, to be honest you would have to drive quite lightly to improve upon this.
