ok, so now that is has zero rust, phew! at last :D

I couldn't decide what to do underneath it to replicate originality and to try keep the rust from happening again anytime soon, after talking to a few chaps I came up with the plan to stonechip the entire underside including the inner arches front and back,

the painter mixed stone chip somehow with henna red paint and it came up great....the result ? an undercarriage that is like bell metal, hard as nails !

check out the jacking points :D
Image

rear inners, all the metal here is brand new it still needs a once over with more paint..

Image

brand new wheel well fitted, sadly this came with a complete boot floor/battery pockets which had already been done :P
Image

incedentally the pockets look great

compared to the old one..

It's all looking very nice dude. I've been envious of the quality for some time so I've used what has been posted to make extra effort for my own work this past year.

Keep up the updates guys :D

My idiots explanation is, because the camera hasn't got anything else to reference against (everything is it red pretty much) so it can't set the contrast properly.

I had exactly the same problem taking pictures of the touring, DSLR solved it :

It's probably that the camera is set to auto white balance and all that red is confusing it. See if you can set the white balance manually then all the shots should be consistant.

Anyway, that shell is looking lovely.

Is indeed Mars Red, turns orange instead of pink when you don't polish it 8)

Cheap cameras don't have an infra red filter, most DSLR camera lenses will have one built in, its why it looks pink/brilliant red.

As far as i am aware, its just paintable/coat able panel seal you can get from your local motor factors.

wee bit of an Update...hoped to have had more done but xmas new years + far too much Booze has lead to not a lot getting done :o:

many thanks to Atul for the Stickers :D

Image

Image

Added a few shiny bits while waiting for powdercoating to be done this turd is taking up valuable ramp space it's been on there 3 weeks !

Image

Image

Image

still can't get the hang of this camera, the pics look nothing like the colour

unless I use my Phone ?

Image

so one thing that is annoying me is that the clips for the roof hoop trim are NLA, the centre fixings were good to go again but the plastic pins at each end of it are MIA :(

I have used 2 under bonnet Insulation clips, the type with centre locking pins..they are the only thing I can get to fit so until I find an alternative....

Image

Image

I know it's only a plastic clip but it's not right or OEM am I sad ? :?

new Hirschman Arial fitted, it's the little things that count !

Image

so the next move is to get it rolling again so I can get it off the ramp and open the doors fully and throw some wires in there...

Rear Beam fully re-built/powdercoated, Managed to get this built up this morning, just waiting for the large washers for above the Beam bushes to arrive and that can be thrown on,

note H&R and Billies, no stance action here !

Image

and on to the front Legs.....
Jesus they are Bad 20 years of Scottish potholes has taken it's toll...

back plates may tidy up with a bit of hammerite...

Image

God knows how I got the collar off the leg the threads have rusted to nothing,

Image

Image

been hunting good secondhand front legs for ages but no luck, new one's have been ordered from the stealers, :clin:

a bit of luck, and this time next week it should be rolling on all fours :D

Probably a different colour in the pics between your camera and phone because of the white balance. If your camera has it, change the white balance to tungsten / fluorescent when you are shooting in your lockup with the lights on :D

New front legs  Sounds like you need a fair bit of lubing up when ordering them!

Hey Steve, might have an answer for the clips on the hoop trim, didnt realise it was the end ones you were on about the other day

Give me a call one day this week as a reminder and ill have a rumage through my goodie drawer at work as ive got some that will do the job nicely. Put some on the lachs car before i sold it and they looked oem. Ill try and remember what i got them for too as it might help a few others out.

Number 5 here Dan, they have Ended...

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=41&fg=30

had a brain wave, with a bit of luck the plastic rivets that hold the plastic boot slam panel down might work.. I will try tomorrow

another problem..
new rear quarters were used.. and it seems on later model M3's the rear bumper is held on differently, plastic sliders on the quarters are needed which the old quarters had built in but made from Steel and part of the panel :P

I think the offending piece needed is number 14 here..

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=51&fg=15

which hopefully bolts to this bit and stops the bumper corners from flapping around ! ...

Image

can anyone confirm ? :?
