Why is the shortlist for the greatest BMW M Cars (in Car magazine) different to the one conducted by Evo magazine in 2007 which the finalists included BMW M3 Sport Evolution, BMW M3 CSL (although the one featured was not standard), BMW E39 M5, BMW M1, BMW E9... 3.0CSL? These saw off the newer M Cars namely the E60 M5, M6, E92 M3. On record Evo did mention the BMW E46 M3 CS was the BEST of the E46s then reconsidered this verdict against the albeit non-standard M3 CSL and mentioned the CSL was better in that particular group test.
I remember buying the Evo magazine review and pretty much wetted myself lol.

Probably the M1- the proper original one. I remember seeing a couple of them in the workshops at Bracknell in 1982-83 including one black one - the best colour by far. After that I guess an E28 M5 and the M635CSi after that.
