M20 sensor

I have the m52 with 1sensor and an outlet in the head!
is it just a case of drill and tap in situ?
Will there be issues in doing this?

better off redoing the threads on the sensor it's self,
file the old ones off,
and re-thread it.. simples

There is only 1 sensor on the head and one outlet pipe - the m20 temp sensor will have to go where the outlet pipe is...... Could I just put a short bit of pipe on the outlet with the sensor on the other end?

Yeah you can drill the outlet and retap it, I'd have thought that's better then doing the sensor as it will make changing it if it ever goes bust a lot easier.

Yeah, it'll not be pretty but it'll work,
as long as it's touching the stub on the head (Think the sensor needs earthed??)

But drilling and tapping on a cylinder head thats already built up and bolted to the block, is a bit risky...
all it will take is 1 bit of swarf to get stuck somewhere it shouldnt, and it's game over,
1 over heating engine because the cooling system is blocked

For the sakes of a few quid get it machined down! The guy chucked mine in for free when he did my flywheel.

I recently did mine myself. Put the sensor into a drill and used a file to remove the current thread then used a die to cut a new thread. Tap & die kit was £25 from Screwfix and will come in handly in the future I'm sure!

Recut the thread is the obvious answer, it will cost a tenner pretty much anywhere, you have to be a real tight bstard to tap the head out whilst fitted! Its only do-able with the head removed so any swarf can be cleaned out properly

I'll mill the thread down. I'm not going to disturb a good seal on the head!

ive just had the same issue and im also tapping the sensors thread.
ive been told the outlet is not needed anyway
